Quinti

The Ghost-Fingered Terror

"White as bleached bone beneath black waters, hunting with a patience older than the river's songs."   Steamtide Dock Master
In the corrupted waters of the River Vo, where Grizburg's industrial waste mingles with the ancient currents of the Kalnith Jungle, an albino horror glides through the murk. Quinti, whose name means "Ghost Finger" in the orcish tongue, emerged during a Bloodclaw ritual as a mere juvenile crocodile. Now, decades later, that same beast has grown to mythic proportions, transformed by the river's poisoned waters into something far beyond natural law.
"The thing moves like moonlight through poison. Those who glimpse its eyes speak of knowledge that chills the marrow."   Mistwatch Scout's Report
Years of exposure to the River Vo's alchemical pollutants have twisted Quinti's form. Reports describe a crocodile of enormous size, its alabaster scales stained with metallic residue from Rustfall's ceaseless production. The beast's eyes gleam with an unsettling awareness, suggesting it has absorbed more than mere toxins from its corrupted domain.   The merchant vessel "Dawn's Promise" vanished beneath the waters last season, leaving only splintered timber and tales of a pale shadow rising from the depths. More recently, the goblin trading barge "Iron Smile" was found adrift, its hull bearing massive gouges unlike any natural crocodile's bite marks.
"Each year brings new changes. The crystalline growths along its spine pulse with light that makes the water dance. Whatever swims those depths now, it's no simple river beast."   Anonymous Fumescar Dock Worker
Multiple bounties now compete for Quinti's head. The Bloodclaw Warband maintains a standing reward, while the Rust Barons of Grizburg offer substantial payment for proof of the creature's death. Yet the beast's chemically-hardened hide turns aside even specialized harpoons forged in Grizburg's darkest foundries. Most disturbing are the patches of translucent flesh that have begun to appear along its flanks, revealing organs that pulse with unnatural bioluminescence.   The Mistwatch maintains careful documentation of Quinti's activities, seeing in its transformation a dark reflection of their struggle against industrial corruption. Their observations suggest the creature's hunting grounds expand with each passing season, as if driven by more than mere territorial instinct to claim ever-larger portions of the river.   As ships arm themselves with increasingly exotic weapons and crews whisper prayers to forgotten river gods, Quinti's legend grows. The beast serves as harbinger of what unchecked corruption may yet spawn in Nolavor's shadowed waters.
