Brief History of Ddaear
War of Creation
The Gods were at war with each other.
To make the conflict more interesting, they combined the elements and created the material plane, a giant board on which to control the pieces.
Most gods created their own race to use in the ongoing battles on this single landmass (except Nerull, the ferrier of souls, and Boccob, the referree).
Note that other minor gods exist and experimented with their own races (gnolls, kobolds, etc), but they were never a large force.
For ages the gods battled without any one gaining a particular advantage.
Sure, minor grievances were settled using this game, but the gods were unable to change anything major.
That had to come from within.
Asmodeus was the general in the army of the unnamed god.
He led a battalion of angels in revolt against their creator, thinking he could run the army more effectively.
Upon killing his master, Asmodeus took the divine spark and apotheosed.
The other gods imprisoned him and his battalion in the Nine Hells fearing what would happen if other creations rebelled.
Those angels mutated into the first devils.
In his rage, Asmodeus struck from existence the name of his creator.
The angels who did not follow Asmodeus allied themselves with the other gods, swearing service for all time.
They deemed the territory once occupied by angels to be forbidden ground to all creations, to keep things fair.
Without his most powerful enemy, Laogzed was quickly able to gain ground.
Khala and Rhiannon joined Gruumsh, Rillifane, and Moradin to take him out.
Rhiannon died in the battle, leaving her power to her first creation and lieutenant, Gorellik.
Khala was able to deal the finishing blow against Laogzed.
The demon god, not wanting his creations to fall under another’s control, flung them into the Abyss with his dying breath.
There, the demons shape their own realms and vie for power.
Maglubiyet was weakened by the removal of his ally.
Gruumsh immediately capitalized on this and killed Maglubiyet to gain control of his goblins.
Maglubiyet's son, Tuern, vowed vengeance against Gruumsh and waged war with him directly, using whatever troops he could find and train.
Shortly thereafter, Rillifane died under mysterious circumstances, with evidence pointing to Gruumsh as the killer.
Rillifanes children, Corellon, Sehanine, and Lolth, inherited her elves and swore vengeance against Gruumsh.
The insuing battle was interrupted by the fracturing, sparing Gruumsh from death.
But Corellon did manage to take an eye before the ceasefire.
Age of Isolation
Humans and elves developed sailing technology to explore the uncharted parts of the world.
Upon discovery of the others, they immediately started fighting.
The war expanded to the Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes, and Dragonborn, until all were embroiled in the conflict
After a couple centuries, the arms race escalated to mutually assured destruction, and everyone realized they should probably stop the fighting.
A truce was signed by the civilized races, leading to an era of peace.
Age of Nation
Silver-Lined Age
Many people were not happy with the decision to ally with Orcs, and a new organization led by Culdran and The Rapture grew from the remnants of the Coalition.
Calling themselves TNR, they began to utilize the risen dead as weapons of terror.
While the Council was able to drive the group underground, enough damage was done to steadily erode the faith people had in this world order.
TNR Takeover
In secret, TNR infiltrated most of the companies responsible for manufacturing Geotech and inserted themselves into all points of the supply chain.
With this newfound social power the group was able to influence and control most policy decisions, eventually leading to the dissolution of the Council.
Having finally gained their goal of world domination, the organization turned their attentions to more nefarious gains.
The first action was to take care of the pesky Dragonborns poluting their ranks by convincing the Dragons that they needed to clean up their mess from ages ago.
Realizing they would not be able to take out the remaining races (Dwarves, Elves, and Orcs) in their current state, TNR started pouring more resources into Geotech in order to gain immortality.
While they did not succeed in this main goal, they did make other breakthroughs in communication, food cultivation, and others.
Some of the more radical factions within TNR turned their attention to necromancy in their search of immortality.
After all, what are endless supplies of zombies for?
Unfortunately, the crystals that fuel Geotech became scarcer to find.
And with even more devices disseminating amongst the Human elite, demand for the crystals was only increasing.
A TNR operative Mengal Aven stumbled on a way to synthesize the crystal fuel using common ingredients.
Unfortunately, the main ingredient was Orc blood, due to the race's natural immortality and strength.
The ensuing tensions between the races escalted, and it was only a matter of time...
Great War
Everything came to a head when TNR struck against the Orcs. Knowing the Humans would probably lose a drawn out conflict, they decided to strike all Orc cities simultaneously and hard. No longer could the rest of the world sit idly by. Led by Marquez Mougrain, granddaughter of Saint Dura, the Delegation of the People was founded to rout out TNR and wrest back control of the world.
Calling on the Dragons for aid, TNR fought back. The flying cities spread out across the world became battlegrounds for the evenly matched forces.
Human Faith
Through the centuries, "Convergents" slowly became "Convergence". Instead of worshipping individual saints, TNR leaders began pushing the worship an ideal state of being. While the saints were still honored and venerated, the combination of all their good deeds formed this theoretical perfect human.
Suddenly, in the middle of this great war, the most devout of the Humans began to experience an odd power. Their faith in the Convergence began to manifest small miracles. It wasn't long before this became weaponized, resulting in Human victory all but assured.
End of the War
Just when all seemed lost for the Delegation of the People, the Dragons decided to not fight anymore. Overnight, they collectively abandoned the war effort and flew off over the horizon. No one knows why they left, nor has anyone seen a Dragon since.
Without their powerful ally, the Human armies quickly fell. TNR was driven underground, and order was restored once more. A central government was reformed under the Delegation of the People, but with none of the unity of years past. Local governments were left relatively autonomous, with few laws affecting all peoples.
Fourth Age
Death of Ddaear
Life on Ddaear was completely upended by
The Dawn War. The battles between gods and primordials left the land scarred and completely unrecognizable. Civilization was devastated to the point that it was easier to just start over. The new world dawned with
Talamh.
