Lore Item: Journal Entry – Dr. Emily Carter

The days blend into one another in this unending nightmare. Every hour feels like a desperate race against time. The Sonohoka virus evolves faster than we can adapt, mocking our efforts with each failed experiment. We’ve lost so many colleagues—brilliant minds who perished or succumbed to the infection. The isolation chambers are becoming a grim reminder of our failure. Today, we found a possible lead in the latest viral strain. It’s a long shot, but the preliminary results suggest a potential weakness in its replication process. If we can exploit this, it might be our chance to create a viable vaccine. I have to believe this is more than just a flicker of hope. If this fails, I fear the end is inevitable. I’m recording this in case our efforts come to nothing—if we can’t save ourselves, perhaps someone will find these notes and continue the work we began. The world outside is a desolate wasteland, but inside these walls, we cling to the hope of salvation.

The remainder of the journal is notes regarding the virus and the possible creation of a vaccine. However, the book has been badly damaged by time and these notes are no longer complete. There are many missing pages and many that have been damaged to the point that they are no longer readable. But there are fragments within the journal that might mean something to the right person.
