Bodhisattva

A bodhisattva is a being who has attained enlightenment and vows work towards Nirvana for all living things. Bodhisattvas work to relieve the suffering of others and try to make them aware of the Dark teachings. Bodhisattvas are worshiped as those who have achieved a kind of godhood. They are considered the living embodiment of the Void. Because of this, they are the leaders of the church. Their authority given to them through evidence of their achievements.

Qualifications

Renown 50 or higher in the Dark Path, Vigor score of 16 or more.

Appointment

You can attain this position only if the previous Bodhisattva has died or you are challenging their claim. Becoming the Bodhisattva requires you to claim the position and maintain your title against any other challengers. It is the standard for competing claims among would-be Bodhisattva to be resolved by combat to demonstrate the canidates' ability to wield the Dark. Regardless of the number of challengers, the combat is held in an arena with all challengers competing for the title. The winner claims the title of the Bodhisattva. The losers take a 20 renown penalty. Those within the Dark path see the losers as having made a false claim of divinity and it can be difficult to recover the renown lost in this manner.

Duties

The Bodhisattva is responsible for the spiritual well being of Necropolis. They are responsible for maintaining a high morale amongst the people, even during difficult times. They are expected to be charitable, giving most of their wealth to social endevours and spending much of their time working to improve the living conditions within Necropolis.

Responsibilities

They are responsible for The Dark Path, Dark Lore and Necromantic Caverns. They serve as a religious advisor to the Litch Lord, offering wisdom and insight in how to inspire the people.

History

This religious title was established from the teachings of Toutatis Su'en Allaway who spoke of achieving Narvina and helping others also attain this goal.

Cultural Significance

The Bodhisattva is the most respected position within Necropolis and carries a great deal of social power despite not having any formal politcal power.
