Basic Information

Anatomy

Their bodies are designed to be efficient in water and they can remain underwater without surfacing for air for multiple days at a time. Their upper bodies appear human, while their lower bodies appear like other underwater mammals, but are actually split allowing them to walk on land.  Walking upright puts a strain on their bodies and their skin will dry out over time, so they don't stay on land for long.

Genetics and Reproduction

The females lay hundreds of eggs and the males smell the eggs and fertilize them.  But neither stick around to care for the young and many die.

Growth Rate & Stages

As babies their gills are sufficient to allow them to breath, but the gills do not grow as they grow.  Instead they breath air as adults.

Ecology and Habitats

They prefer to live in tropical climates, specifically in coral reefs, constructing houses out of the reefs as they can farm the reefs into the shapes they wish.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are omnivores.

Social Structure

They are nomadic, with only small groups remaining together at a time, often when they are younger and more vulnerable.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have sonar, which has limited ability on land, but allows them to "see" for miles.  They are typically nearsighted and are dependent upon their sonar.  They have heightened senses of hearing and smell, when in water.
