Imperial Reman Republic

The Imperial Reman Republic was born from an extraordinary event: the arrival of Legatus Legionis Gaius Spurius Lucan, Praefectus castrorum Titus Caepasius Zoilus, and Centurion Nonus Gratius Marius, along with their legion, through a magical gateway in 9 AD (by the Earth calendar). This portal, appearing on the eastern edge of the Dwarven Mountains, thrust them into a world unlike their own. They encountered a Dwarven priestess and her family fleeing the devastation of their village, recently ravaged by a Jotun raiding party. The Jotun, monstrous giants known for their brutality, had either slaughtered or enslaved the villagers, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.   Driven by compassion and a sense of justice, Legatus Lucan and his legion set out to track the Jotun raiding party. After a fierce battle, the Romans, with their superior tactics and discipline, vanquished the giants and freed the captive Dwarves. This act of heroism earned them the respect and gratitude of the Dwarves, forging a strong bond between the two peoples.   Following this victory, the Romans established their first settlement, Hibernia, a small outpost on the edge of Dwarven territory. A few years later, in the year 7017 of the Dwarven Calendar, they founded New Rome, a city built upon Roman principles. For over a decade, trade flourished between New Rome and the Roman Empire, with settlers arriving through the portal and merchants venturing back and forth. A strong military presence guarded both sides of the gateway, protecting against potential threats from this new world. Legatus Lucan, having witnessed the destructive power of the Jotun, understood the dangers that lurked within the Dawn Lands.   Tragically, the portal abruptly closed, severing all contact with their homeland. Faced with this new reality, the citizens and military leaders of New Rome, recognizing the necessity of self-sufficiency, established the Imperial Reman Republic. Though they clung to the ideals of Roman republicanism, maintaining a republican form of government proved challenging. A recent civil war has further strained the Republic, with many citizens abandoning the faith of the Olympians in favor of the enigmatic deity Asmodeus, while whispers of allegiance to Vortex of the Seven Moons, the dark lord of the Undead, Law, and Tyrany.   Despite these internal struggles, the Republic has forged strong trade relationships with its neighbors. Robust trade routes connect New Rome with the Alliance of Dwarven Clans, the Dawn Landers to the south, the Emerald Folk, and the Norse to the north and northwest. These relationships have fostered mutually beneficial alliances, with the Republic often employing Dwarven craftsmen and mercenaries for defense and construction.   For centuries, the Republic has waged a long and arduous struggle against the Jotun, the fearsome giants of the north. Though they have successfully driven back the Jotun on numerous occasions, a decisive victory has remained elusive.

The Imperial Reman Republic is ruled by a senate, with senators elected by property holding citizens throughout the Empire. This is easily seen in the armor and equipment of the Imperial Legions.
