Freeman the Mad

From a young age, Freeman heard tales of powerful warriors from the south, and he dreamed of one day becoming strong. Bullied by his peers for his frail build, he would lash out in anger over his pathetic existence. The very day he turned 14, he left his hometown, heading south across the sea in hopes of a better life.   He studied under the first Samurai willing to teach him, a frail old master who consistently bested him in training. One day, the old man exclaimed that Freeman should quit and return to his hometown, for the old man would never be bested by such a pathetic excuse for a warrior. Freeman, fueled by a lifetime of anger, lashed out, stabbing the old man in the back. Fearing the consequences from his fellow students, he fled into the mountains.   A foolish move. Winter descended upon the mountain, and Freeman found himself starving and alone. He stumbled upon a small cottage and was invited in by an ugly old witch. She offered him tea, but when he snatched it and downed it, he realized he had been poisoned. Freeman drew his blade and decapitated the witch, only to awaken, starving, and craving humanoid flesh. He succumbed to his hunger, terrorizing travelers who passed through the mountains.   Adventurers were sent to deal with the mad cat, Freeman, and he was eventually slain. Sentenced to the Abyss for his crimes against all good beings of the realm, he slowly transformed into a less catfolk and more demonic creature. While only a few decades passed in the mortal world, time flows differently in the Abyss. For Freeman, it felt like an eternity – nine hundred agonizing years. Then, the Demon Lord Orcus appeared before him, offering a deal: he could return to the mortal realm in exchange for service within Orcus's army, serving under the command of the Gray Lady. Seizing this opportunity to escape his torment, Freeman agreed. He emerged from the Abyss through a newly opened portal, appearing in Skrattafell.   Upon arrival, Freeman immediately sought out the Gray Lady, informing her of his new allegiance to Orcus and swearing loyalty to both her and the Demon Lord. He vowed to serve only them, taking no commands from any other.   Now, with the Gray Lady gone, all Freeman can do is search for her, wait for her return, and perhaps indulge in a little "fun."

What is an NPC

If you’d like to play, but want to reduce costs, then you can sign up as an NPC or Monster. If you choose to play as an NPC or monster, you may be given a role (perhaps more than one). You can specify a combat or non-combat role. You don’t have to choose a class and culture as an NPC, we will choose one for you. You will receive double experience points, standard starting gold, and are eligible for Royalty Points. You will also get an entry at half price.

THE PURPOSE

Monsters, NPCs, and Staff allow the LARP to run smoothly and help players who don't know exactly what they want to play, or that want to help, and/or need help with discounts to take part in the LARP.

The BIG Difference

between an NPC and an Adventurer is that an NPC’s primary job is to help the story move forward and to help players. NPCs fill jobs like healers, essential townsfolk roles, etc.
