Tradesman's Passing

Industry & Trade

The city's main industry is it's central trade market, but like all dwarf cities there is a respectable crafts district (with a large focus on incorporating foreign raw materials into traditional dwarvish works) and a small but respectable alchemy trade, taking in foreign ingredients and selling the resulting concotions.

Trade

Tradesman's Passing was one of the major trade hubs before the human occupation. The pass leads into the center of the dwarven atol, opening a great deal more of the dwarven settlments open to trade, and offering more direct access to the Mathair's Seat, the holy inner, volcanic island.   Tradesman's Passing has also has mine connections that directly fall into each other clan's mine network. Dwarf mine structures are not bound by euclidean geometry, and the overlander map only accounts for the territory above ocean level. Below, the territory overlaps and interleaves, and each can be accessed safely by the mine shafts in tradesman's passing.

History

Tradesman's Passing was founded by Ednyl The Tradesmen, in the grand act that secured her sainthood. A large statue stands over the pass into the center of the Atol, opening much of the Atol up to safe and profitable trade with the outside world. There are reports of the statue being errected in her honor, and similiar reports that the statue was built at her explicit command, to honor her greatest deal yet- attaining saint hood.   The pass has divine magics that prevents weapons from passing through, and prevents insurgents that would wish harm on dwarfdom from passing through. The bottom of the pass, deep and dark, holds the skeletons of ships sunk for the protection of the dwarf homeland. While there was no idea of a dwarf nation or state in a political sense, certainly none that the humans would have recognized, there was a formal community between the heads of the dwarf clans, leading them to act more as a loose confederacy. These magics made the pass impossible to use for the human invasion- the invading armies were forced to go over land when taking the Dwarven Atol, and in the process did a great deal of damage to the The Razed Forest.
