Dwarven Pantheon & The Church of Mathair

Mathair is the mother of dwarves, who raised the six clan forefathers from the clay, and nursed them to adulthood. She instilled love of clan, love of family, and love for all dwarf kind. She is seen as firm but loving, and rewards the truly exceptional dwaves by raising her beloved child to Sainthood. Saints make up the remainder of the dwarven patheon.

Saints

Saints are dwarves who lead exceptional lives, often performing great deeds. Dwarves are raised to sainthood after they die, but their bodies disapear, and are assumed to be revived when a dwarf ascends. Baptisms

Most baptisms into the Church of Mathair are dwarf children, brought by their parents, but there are no restrictions to baptsism. Any creature who feels called to Mathair and her praise is encouraged and supported in being baptised. The initiate chooses, or their guardian chooses, a saint to watch over their growth and lifetime. This name saint is often shown in symbols on dwarven clothing, either as symbols engraved on amulets, embroidered into clothing.   The ceromony varies slightly depending on the baptist, but will involve a candle for life, dust for the grave, and water for birth.
