Obsidian Outpost

The obsidian outpost sits high on the bluffs on the eastern edge of the kingdom of Nellum. An ancient obsidian monolith creeps skyward out of the land, over the past years a series of tunnels, rooms and windows have been carved into it. Within these rooms you’ll find a series of large ballistae, all pointed towards the ocean. The outpost overlooks the passage between the Garden of deceit and the mainland which is a critical trade corridor.   Prior to the outpost this stretch of water was regularly filled with pirates and pirates. Since the outpost was constructed the King of Nellum has worked hard to make the passage safer. This took many years and as the outpost grew in effectiveness the pirates became less and less frequent as a reputation was built that the obsidian guard was not to be messed with and that they would sink your ship with no question asked.   The newest addition to the outpost is the large arcane ballista on the top of the tower. Helmed by three mages at all times, it has the power to decimate a ship or a monster if it were to start harrying the trade lines through the region. In the past five to ten years since the addition of the arcane ballista the issues within the straight have been almost nonexistent. As the power and prominence of the obsidian outpost continues to grow so in turn does the fear and apprehension o from other leaders of its location on this trade route. If desired they could functionally shut down all trade through the strait, pushing it out to sea and closer to the pirate infested waters near the summer isle. Calls from the people for a check to their power are growing with each passing day, fear that the outpost and those who man the tower will break off into a revolution sit at the back of the mind for the King of Nellum. But at least for now it remains a steadfast symbol of the strength and control the Kingdom of Nellum has in the region, providing protection for those who will better its lands and destroying those who seek to harm it.
