The Crying Watchman

Situated not far from the Watch Headquarters, the Crying Watchman is the watering hole for the members of the Watch. It is a big corner house, going up three stories high. The ground floor has stone walls, but the two upper floors are built from wood. Right off the entrance, a flight of wooden stairs lead to the upper floor, straight ahead lies the big main room with a flagstone floor, lots of wooden beams and long wooden tables. At the end of the room is a huge open fire, on the right hand side the counter and behind it barrels of beer and shelves with bottles and flasks in all colours. The man serving the drinks is a huge with an even huger red moustache. His head is bald and his eyes small like a pig's, but he is exuding bonhomie. His name is Trevor Smith and he used to be a Watchman himself.   In the early evening, the atmosphere in the tavern is still relaxed, perhaps even a bit wary. A lot of the customers have had a long day of work and just want to drink their beer in piece and quiet. Groups of friends and aquaintances are sitting together. Everyone seem to know everyone else. Only later in the evening will the audience become more diverse, when strangers will find their way into this tavern on the lookout for somewhere to eat and drink or a travelling bard comes in to perform and earn some coin. Then the mood might become more raucous.   The members of the Watch all occupy the same area in the main room, in the back, close to the bar and the fire. They are easily reckognizable, because most still wear their uniform. They might be even quieter than the rest of the customers.     On the first floor a long corridor leads from one end of the house to the other, with four doors on the right hand side opening into private rooms, where guests can eat and drink without having to join the crowd in the main room. On the far end of the corridor another flight of stairs lead down into the kitchen and service area and up into the living quarters of Trevor Smith and his family.
