Office for the Supervision of Magical Devices and Artifacts
The Office for the Supervision of Magical Devices and Artifacts is located in one of the many smaller buildings, that surround the main seat of the Department of the Exchequer in New Town and house smaller departments.
It is a narrow house, about 5 stories high, in a quiet street, off the main road.
A plaque on the door shows it shares the place with the Office for Fair Trading (Regulates licenses of traders and some craftsmen)
Ground floor: Entrance and reception (left side). In the middle of the stone stairways is a cage contraption, with a lot of gears, tubes and switches. A strong iron cable seems to connect it with the top of the house.
Receptionist is a human man, plain, bored.
Corridors run off both sides of the stairwell on all floors. The atmosphere is hushed, there are a lot of clerks, going in and out of rooms.
From the third floor onwards, the stairs become wooden, the corridors look more narrow and the people visible become sparse.
On the forth floor is a sign pointing left to the Office of the Supreme Supervisor for the Office for the Supervision of Magical Devices and Artifacts.
The door opens into a big office, panneled wooden walls, lined with shelves, full of files and books.
About 10 scribes are working here, busy over copying or pouring over documents. You see Dwarves, Humans, Dragonborn, Lizardpeople and even one Elf working here. No Gnomes.
On the far side of the room is a double door leading to the office of the Supreme Supervisor. On the table before the door sits a Dragonborn, his secretary.
After the "Incident" at the Silver Celebrations and Faregrim Steelfist's removal as head of the Office, things have turned a bit chaotic.
The Elven Mage, Laurelin Stardust has been made provisional Head of Department. He is a friendly Elf, who, at the moment is preoccupied by reorganizing Faregrim's old Office. The shelves are pretty empty, because A. Walsingham and his people have come in, packed everything up and taken it away. Everyone in the office has been interrogated and many are still shaken. The Dragonborn Secretary has not come back so far.
It becomes obvious, that Laurelin Stardust is much more open to registering magical devices than Faregrim, whom he always thought to stuffy. He is quite open about knowing Lord Aylos Woodstock and being supported by him.

History
The Office for the Supervision of Magical Devices and Artefacts is relatively new, only about 18 years old.
Magical artefacts, especially of old Elven origins, turning up and causing havoc did happen from time to time. However, these cases were far and few between. With the discovery of the capability of Ethirium crystals to store and channel magical power, everyone could use magical tools to cast spells or power magical devices. The technology advanced in leaps and bounds, but so did the misapplication of these gadgets for criminal and sometimes nefarious uses.
To stem the production and sale of dangerous devices and also to uphold certain standards of quality and safety the Office for the Supervision of Magical Devices and Artefacts was created.
