Circle of the Four
Also referred to as simply 'the Circle', this group once held great prominence across the continent. Now, it is barely even a shadow of it's former self, what remains of this once proud organization only being kept alive by the Order's twisted motivations.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Circle is to train gifted Daulka in how to use their powers responsibly. However, they also took on the roles of protectors, both from mundane and magical sources. They also kept watch over the ever shifting balance between the Four via a massive 'Seer Stone' and warned regions of impending element surges.Location
Their main base is within a massive constructed structure called the Spiral Keep, which is located in the Joining.Recruitment
Any Daulka that is at least 'touched' is allowed to join the Circle, though the mundane are allowed to serve as craftsmen and merchants within their keeps walls. Those that are 'blessed' are encouraged to at least temporarily join them so they can be taught how to use their abilities safely.Ranks
(Tbd)Founding & History
When the Circle had been founded has been lost to time, but it is safely assumed it was formed shortly after 'gifted' Daulka discovered out to directly manipulate the very essence of the Four themselves as a counter to those that would abuse such gifts. Over time the Circle expanded their role and influence, going through the usual periods of benevolence and tyranny. It was these periods of tyranny that caused resentment and fear of the Circle and with 'gifted' Daulka in general to grow. A series of events followed that severely weaked the Circle. The first was largely unknown, but was simply known as the Great Displacement. Many gifted were apparently lost due to this event and with that loss came a loss of control. While the Circle struggled to rebuild and reestablish, newly awakened gifted Daulka started slipping through the cracks. While most of such individuals did not wish to harm their kin, others let the power get to their heads and became destructive. The Circle dealt with these threats as quickly as they could, but the damage had been done to their reputation. In a effort to rebuild trust, they encouraged the formation of the Order, a mundane lead organization to fulfill the roles the Circle couldn't any longer. Shortly after came the biggest blow: a plague of Akesa Glut that all but completely wiped out the gifted, either through death or by severing their connection to magic. With no other choice, the what was left of the Circle reclused themselves and allowed the Order to take full control. This would prove to be a mistake, as unbeknownst to them, the leadership of the Order had been convinced by an outside influence that gifted Daulka were a threat to all life. The weakened gifted leadership of the Circle were slain and only the 'touched' Daulka were allowed to remain. These touched Daulka were only responsible for monitoring the Seer Stone, forced, under threat of their lives, to only report an upcoming elemental surge to the Order directly: by then, they knew such surges were a major contributor to the chance of a gifted one being born. Now, the Circle is simply a tool for the Order, a tool that may be fast losing it's usefulness.
