Aelastun

Properties

Material Characteristics

Aelastun is a glossy, ductile, malleable black metal.

Compounds

can be used in a number of alloys mixing in mixture of carbon, and other metals to create useful properties.

Geology & Geography

Aelastun is found in Astroids within the large miststreams and wildspaces on translation points on edges of some systems. No one every found it planetside within the dark, and many believe the astroids are remains of some ancient shattered world, but the oldest races will not be drawn on that subject.

Origin & Source

The ore that Aelastun is found in within a mix of other common metals, minerals and silicate.

History & Usage

Industrial Use

Aelastun is used in one very key function that of jumpseats, that all mistships required to travel the streams and wildspace of the dark. For some reason this metal is critical to the function of the use of them, and is probably the reason why only the older civilisations have access to full mists and wildspace rather than the small passages that Bavo'sand natives have to use.   It's also can be used in both weapons and armour, but these are rare due to the price of the metal and the heavy use in jumpseats, being a limiting fact for all civilisations capacity to run ships and combat their enemies and rivals.

Refinement

In its raw form it needs to be purify of the other elements, which is usually a matter of smelting the ore allowing the impures to run off, during the process leaving a purer form of the Aelastun, which can then be either further worked into an the requirement alloy or used in the pure form.

Manufacturing & Products

Jumpseats, Weapons, Armour

Byproducts & Sideproducts

The Aelastun Ore as many other useful elements within, and often almost as value, and any sensible person will during smelting process store the other elements separately to be used for on their own or to creature Aelastun Alloys as required.
