Psychic energy, sometimes referred to as 'existence', often wrongly referred to as 'magic', is a powerful type of energy that is continuously created by living beings that are self-aware. It interacts with the universe in one of two distinct ways described in the following, depending on the type of universe.

Energy Spillage - Ether Universes

In universes with a predominant ethereal plane, all energy exists in the form of waves that travel through a medium, the ether, or 'ethereal plane'. Through this medium, psychic energy can leak out of living beings and dissipate into the universe, allowing for the natural existence of magic.

Magic in ether universes exists in the following forms:

Primordial/Naming Magic

The most basic, but now forgotten by most, uses for the psychic energy spillage facilitated by sentient beings are the ability to sense the presence of other sentient beings, to move objects without touching them, and to hear the true names of all things around them, which can be spoken to gain power over things and other beings.

Woven Magic

Once sentient beings began naming things, the primordial beings that spawned them grew frightened of their power and they began to weave the energy spillage into beautiful tapestries of magic, enableing more powerful, but less fundamental uses of magic, taxed by the creators of this waeve - another method of extracting psychic energy from their subjects.

Faerie Magic

The Faerie were the first children of the primordial beings and immortal like their creators. This was later perceived as a mistake, which is why they were bannished into a secluded demi-plane, the Realm of Faerie. Immortal as their were though, they were able to preserve the mysteries of primordial magic and naming far better than the second children, the moral races. Using this knowledge, they created their own class of magic independent of woven magic.

Psionics

Psionics are often wrongfully believed to be a personal form of woven magic, wherease in fact, they use energy spillage to rotate areas of space-time around themselves 90 degrees against reality, allowing to make all natural and magical laws bend and flow in unusual ways, creating quasi-magical effects. To accomplish this, complex mental calculations are required, which when used correctly will manipulate the usually naturally flowing spillage into more rigid matricies.

Quantum State Locking - Non-Ether Universes

In universes without a predominant etheral plane, no medium exists to facilitate the spreading of psychic energy, meaning it is locked within the beings that create it. It manifests through a form of 'sympathy' that locks the quantum state of energy which has to exist as both waves and particles at the same time. Once energy is observed by a being containing psychic energy, its state becomes absolute, as it no longer has the ability to exist in a meta-state. Willful quantum locking allows for a quasi-form of magic inferior to ether universe magic, though unusual tricks of technology become possible due to the quantum nature of the universe.

Manifestation

There are many different ways, psychic energy can manifest. Some of these are magic and psionics.
