Resistance, Armor and Death

The Resistence Roll

Can be activated in response to any consequence. You take stress to lessen or avoid the consequence.
This always succeeds—you diminish or deflect the bad result—but the better your roll, the less stress it costs to reduce or avoid the danger.

Attribute

Attribute used is based on the activating consequence:
  • Insight: Consequences from deception or understanding
  • Prowess: Consequences from physical strain or injury
  • Resolve: Consequences from mental strain or willpower

Mechanics

PC takes 6 Stress minus the hightest die result
Crit: Clear 1 Stress instead of taking any Stress

Typically reduces severity of Consequence by 1 degree, but can be more (according to GM) to the point of total negation.
Instead of taking Moderate Harm, the PC rolls resistance and takes Minor Harm instead. If for some reason the GM warrants it, they could say they suffer none at all.

Only one Resistance Roll can be used against a given Consequence.
If there are multiple consequences, the player can choose to resist each Consequence individually.
Failing a Prowl roll while trying to sneak across a narrow iron beam over the group gathered below, the GM inflicts Harm as well as ticking the "Impending War with the Irish" clock. The player can decide to resist one or the other of these effects, or both with two separate rolls.
Once the player elects to roll resistane and the roll is thrown, they must accept it. They cannot decide that the amount of stress is too much.

Armor

The degree of Consequence can be reduced by the value of Armor (instead of using a Resistance roll).
The character fails their Scrap roll and takes a shotgun blast to the shoulder, causing a Level 3 Harm "Shattered Shoulder".
They can elect to use Armor to reduce this by 1 to a Level 2 Harm "Dislocated Shoulder". Additionally, they could also use Heavy Armor to reduce it by another to Level 1 Harm "Bruised Shoulder".
Once Armor boxes have been marked as used, they can't be restored until the Crew chooses their Load for the next Score.

Death

There are two triggers:
  • Taking Level 4 Fatal Harm without resisting
  • Taking Level 3 Harm when level 3 is already filled

Upon Death

Player creates a new character or from an existing NPC.
