“They built the city from this pit, kid—and dumped what was left of it back in when it broke.”
  Location: Bridgeport
Established: Mid-1800s; operational quarry until the 1970s
Access: Restricted / Fenced (but breached)
Connected Factions: The Fear Crew (ritual dumping site), CPD Arcane Division (red-flagged Veil hazard), spiritualists tied to South Side shrines

Description - Exterior

A vast open wound in the limestone, now ringed with chain-link, rusted signage, and caution tape long since torn. The pit drops steep and uneven, its walls scarred by a century of blasting. At its rim, cement blocks and old rails peek out like bones, and half-collapsed retaining walls still bear city seals from forgotten administrations.

Description - Interior

The floor is uneven—part filled with rubble, part swallowed by stagnant water. Pools form where they shouldn’t. Sometimes, they reflect things that aren’t there. Graffiti crawls across the rock in dead languages. Pipes emerge from nowhere and disappear into nowhere. A narrow trail winds downward, but never the same way twice.

Public Face

Officially a decommissioned quarry and future landfill site, marked for potential development. Neighbors call it “that big-ass hole” and warn kids to stay out. Local toughs treat it like a proving ground. Few enter sober. Fewer talk about what they saw inside.

What's Really Going On

The Quarry Mouth is a Veil-sunken place—drained of natural magic but heavy with manmade echoes. Blood dumped here doesn’t wash away. Voices linger longer than they should. On windless nights, you can hear picks striking stone from inside the earth. Spiritualists claim the quarry was dug through a "hollow scar" in reality. Others believe it's trying to close—but something won’t let it.

Notables

Denny Ruttman – Ex-union man turned junk collector who camps near the west slope; says he’s watching for "the stone blink."
Sister Coraline – Veil practitioner who teaches rites to new witches here, and warns against “digging too deep.”
Reuben “Cat” Melnick – CPD Arcane Division officer assigned to observe only. He’s never gone past the third tier.
Fear Crew “Old Drop” Site – Unmarked, but known to local crews. Used for rituals and “sending messages.”

Rumors & Hooks:

  • The Veil here isn’t just thin—it’s inverted. Something’s leaking up.
  • A missing shipment of Veil-reactive ore was last seen routed through a junk hauler that dumped into the pit.
  • People say you can see your own grave reflected in the bottom pool—if you’re stupid enough to look.
  • A collapsed tunnel wall revealed carved handholds leading into a deeper shaft. No one’s reached the bottom.
  • At least two cults have tried to “seal the mouth.” Both failed. One just vanished.
  • The pit sometimes echoes back in different voices than the ones yelling down.
  • Local crews dare new initiates to retrieve a token from “the third echo.” Most chicken out. Some come back changed.
  • A ghost named Calder—wears miner’s coveralls, always wet—asks strangers to help him “dig it back open.”
  • The city quietly redirected all building permits within three blocks of the Quarry last year. No explanation given.
