Byzantios is the great successor to the Empire of Augusta, extending eastward across the Sea of Zalpa, southward onto the Anatolia to the very borders of Araby, westward across the Argosian cities, and still along the northern shores of the Middle Sea, to the Kingdoms of Neapolis, Sikilia, Sardis, and Korso. Although the western provinces have fallen to barbarians, the Empire commands respect amongst the Frankish lords, the Frisian merchants, and even the far-away squabbling warlords of Albion. Where once the Eternal City had reigned supreme, the dark metropolis of Byzantios is now the foremost city of the world. From there, the Emperor, Konon the Lion of the Isaurians, wields his power with the careless brutality of a god. This is still the greatest Empire the world has ever known.
