Brocchus the Bear

Dwelling in the town below the mighty fortress of Dinas Emrys, Brocchus is the leader of a particularly vile band of thieves, cut-throats, and brigands.  The veteran warrior claims descent from the ancient rulers of Brycheiniog but is, according to rumor, really an escaped slave from Wessex. Such rumors are only whispered, for Brocchus would undoubtedly kill anyone who dared to give them voice. This is no idle fear, for he is a fearsome adversary, never without his magical hammer, with which it is said that he never misses a blow. Indeed, he is irascible and relentless in his fury-although he has respect for fighting skill and has been known to spare opponents who show promise.

Brocchus has taken the Red Dragon Inn (once called the Inn of the Dueling Dragons but changed by order of the Queen) as his headquarters, holding court in the common room, where he is typically attended by his 6 personal guards and his advisor, the warlock Iccalus.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Physically imposing and with the constiution of a bear, Brocchus is also immensely strong.

Body Features

He is broad-shouldered with legs like tree trunks and a massive chest. He appears to wear his armor as lightly as a linen shirt, without conveying a hint of its weight.  He moves slowly, with a challenging swagger, his muscles always tensed as though he is preparing to explode into action.

Facial Features

Square-jawed with angular features, high cheekbones, and heavy-lidded eyes that droop like a bulldog's, but belie his awareness of his surroundings.  His skin is rough and pocked, his mouth fixed in a perpetual frown.   On the rare occasions he smiles, it is sardonic and cruel. Anger comes over him like a stormcloud, and those who have learned to guage his moods quickly make themselves scarce if possible.

Identifying Characteristics

His angular face is framed by a curtain of dark hair, almost black, that falls to his shoulders.  He looks like a wild animal, barely contained by the armor that seems to imprison him.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Brocchus takes pride in his ability to keep the unruly people of Tref Emrys and the nearby settlements under control. To maintain that control, he deals out "justice" swiftly and savagely.

Intellectual Characteristics

Although he is of slightly below average intelligence, he nonetheless recognizes his limitations and makes use of advisors to make up for it. He trusts in his advisor Iccalus and enjoys the warlock's reliance on his protection, being wily enough to use the distaste the other brigands have for his advisor to keep the magic-user under tirght control.
