Amon, Lord of Light

Amon is the Bringer of Light, the Keeper of the Heavenly Flame and the Pattern of Serenity. With the coming of the Lord of Light, the Era of the Nine Gods came at last to an end. Even with the fall of the Augustan Empire, the Light of Amon continues to spread through the world, growing stronger with the joyful cries of the faithful. The white-robed priests of the god may be found in every town once held by the Empire.   The Great Fane of Amon can be found in the Eternal City itself, in the heart of the Basilica of the Holy Light. From here, it is said that a new empire has arisen from the ruins of the old, an empire of the spirit that shall have no end.

Impossibly distant from human affairs, Amon acts through the agency of the Divine Child. Some say the Divine Child is his Emissary, others that the Divine Child is his Avatar. Many claim that the Divine Child represents only a fraction of Amon's true power, for if the god were to appear in full glory, the fabric of reality itself would dissolve before the Light like a cobweb before a flame. Whatever may be the truth of his nature, the Divine Child only appears in human history at times of great trouble or momentous change. The Divine Child is said to have been present at the destruction of Imryrr, when the gorgeous palaces of that people were drowned in the sea, and again at the fall of the Kartaganian Empire inaugurating the Era of the Nine Gods.

Tenets of Faith

The Faith of Amon upholds the principles of steadfast devotion to truth, the cultivation of inner light, and a contempt for the illusions and blandishments of the flawed material world. In the view of the faithful, enlightenment is the key to salvation, for men are held in thrall by the forces of darkness and materialism. Enlightenment is only possible when sinful humanity returns to the Light of Amon from which it has willingly gone astray due to the temptations of the material world, and in particular those forces embraced by the powers of chaos-love of excess, power of wrath, fear of decay, and yearning for novelty and constant change.

Priests of Amon seek to return to the Path of Light by practicing temperance, chastity, charity, and devotion. Wealth and luxuries are to be avoided, while fasting and prayer are embraced. By abstaining from those habits the material body craves, believers seek to free their minds and open their hearts to the hidden truths of the spirit that the material world obscures.
