The second foundation

After awakening from a century-long slumber, Bayard, the last surviving member of the prestigious Grave Templars, embarks on a pilgrimage through the Dreamlands to unite humanity and establish a new order of knighthood to bring vengeance to mankind. Thanks to the sacrifice of the gods of the earth, the ancient gods have been greatly weakened, but their abominations still roam free, sowing death across the Dreamlands for over a hundred years. The time has come for humanity to resist once more against the emissaries of evil.   In this age of death, the last survivors are scattered throughout the Dreamlands, living a miserable existence as they await their demise. Even the few knights who did not perish when the gods died are but shadows of their former selves, confined to pitiful bastions or wandering aimlessly on journeys from which they never return.   Bayard is a monk-knight, the mightiest of the chivalric orders of the First Foundation. In honor of his fallen master, he now bears the title of Castellan, a title once held by Belial, who was torn apart by profane sorcery in the final moments of the War of the Gods. At present, Bayard is likely the most powerful human alive, and it falls upon him to restore hope to mankind by achieving great deeds. Thus, he travels the land, cleaving through abominations and heretics in his path, gathering more and more followers. By the year of grace 740, he finally had enough men and knowledge to establish a new order of knighthood, which he named the 'Disciples,' symbolizing their humility toward their knightly ancestors. After decades of wandering, humanity's champions have risen again, under new banners, but thanks to the teachings of the survivors and Bayard himself, the new successor knights preserve the legacy of past orders. In the years following the year of grace 740, numerous sub-orders of the Disciples would emerge, each upholding their ideals and beliefs, yet all obedient to the orders of the Castellan.
