Bansurvei - Fairy Dust
Fairy dust is one of the purest forms of Elemental energy left in the world. It is the magic of the Kanoshi and is what powers them. The Orcs use it too, but for a very different purpose.
Fairy dust is what allows Kanoshi to use their powers and trick mortals, and in Orc tales, it is called kanomurai. When a Kanoshi wants to use fairy dust, they will sing a rhyme, and that activates the dust. Some Kanoshi play instruments to activate it. Fairy dust, and the Kanoshi in general, are connected to music. Orcs often say that if a person hears singing and there is no-one visible, then it is a Kanoshi and they should leave as fast as possible.
But the Kanoshi are, surprisingly, not the only people to use fairy dust. Orcs use it as well as an alternative light source. Fairy dust can be found all over the Great Forest, and it is known to burn bright at night. The dust is often compared to fireflies, but Orcs prefer to use fairy dust because fireflies are too tiny for them to catch.
Orcs don't actually realise that what they are using is fairy dust. They call the material bansurvei, which means "unknown light". Because of the way fairy dust works, it is a custom at the end of each day for Orcs to sit together and sing or play instruments around the lamps, because the fairy dust will shine brighter.
