Elkinhold (ɛlkinhəʊld)

The second settlement where Gold was found, Elkinhold is an incredibly wealthy settlement. A grandiose palace, gigantic mines, and beautiful houses built by the finest Dwarvish Builders. Some of the houses and manors were built into the mines themselves, adding vertical depth to the settlement.

Demographics

For a long time it used to be Dwarf majority, but by now it has mixed enough that the settlement can be called multicultural.

Government

The High Dwarf of Elkinhold holds a lot of sway within the nation as they hold a large section of the funds of the nation.

Districts

There are two major districts, but the districts themselves have nearly all required infrastructure instead of specialized purpose.   The Upper District - this is where the palace is located, it's the main and entrance district of Elkinhold. Most of the times the newer citizen settle here.   The Mines - this is the part of town built into the vast mines of the settlement. Even though the palace is not here, it's considered to be the wealthier district. Older families began moving down here first in order to not have to interact with tourists and better avoid taxes. The district is full of cliques and niche circles, but thankfully the government has managed to (mostly) crack down on tax avoidance down here.

Guilds and Factions

A lot of guilds - some might even say all the guilds - can be found in Elkinhold in some way or another. The Mines also has a lot of political factions.

History

One of and has been a rich source of Gold ever since.   It was taken over by Gau Dwarovar during the The First Hunt, the first time the settlement has ever fallen since the Age of Dwarves.

Points of interest

Anything can be found in Elkinhold, well, anything legal that is.
