Effect

Soul assimilation is a very risky process. When it starts, the spiritual valves of both parties are opened, and it is a battle of their experience and wisdom that determines which way the energy will flow.
For this spell, the caster will require a red gem worth at least 5,000 gold pieces. They touch the forehead of a living creature with an open palm, holding the gem in the other hand. The target must succeed on a wisdom check or take 12d10+20 damage. If the target is reduced to 0 hit points, you tear their soul into pieces and absorb some of their abilities.
Choose one of the following:
If the target had a class, you may choose one of their abilities for every 4 levels they had achieved (rounded down).
If the target had a class, you may gain one level in that class.
If the target could fly, swim, climb, or burrow you gain the ability to do so at half of its original speed.
You gain the targets damage immunities and resistances.
If the target had blind sense, tremor sense, dark vision, infravision, or true sight you gain that ability.
You gain the ability to communicate in the same way the target would.
You absorb their magical ability, learning all spells they knew and gaining spell slots equal to half of their original slots (rounded down).
If the target instead successfully makes their wisdom check, the caster must then make one. If the caster fails, the spell is reversed onto the caster. If the caster makes their check, it is the target’s turn again. This continues back and forth until someone fails.
Anyone killed through this spell cannot be resurrected by anything short of a wish or divine intervention.
