Qinxi Teng (Kin-She-Teh-Ng)
Qinxi Teng (Family name Qinxi, First name Teng), nicknamed "Old Qinxi's Favourite", is one of the many warlords vying for control of Ryusha's Jade Phoenix throne and the restoration of the Lao Dynasty. A disciplined administrator and soldier, he is the favourite to assume the leadership of the powerful Qinxi Clan, after the recent and unexpected retirement of legendary warlord and imperial administrator "Old" Qinxi. Teng has built the case for his leadership on the basis that he was, as his nickname suggests, "Old Qinxi's Favourite" to succeed him as the clan's leader, however it is unsure whether this is true or not- however, it is known that Teng's drive to impress his father is legendary in it's own right. Regardless, the retirement has caused the clan to split 3 ways between Old Qinxi's three children- Teng, Ai and Dong.
Seeking to emulate his father in every way possible, Teng is fanatically devoted to the Lao Dynasty and it's continuing authority over All Ryusha. Historically, the Qinxi Clan has been a staunch ally of the Lao Dynasty/Clan, with Old Qinxi being a personal friend to the Zhangwei Emperor before the latter's assassination. The now infamous "N'goy Expedition" was led by Old Qinxi, where an army of missionaries (alongside actual soldiers) went through the N'goy forests in North-East Ryusha, attempting to 'convert' the supposedly 'savage' tribespeople and Fey-folk to the Imperial Faith. It failed miserably, but Old Qinxi's dogged dedication to the task endeared him and his clan to the Imperial establishment. The Qinxi clan was given exclusive rights to sell Madak (a wildly popular psychoactive drug made from the blending of two plants that are both cultivated by the Qinxi clan) throughout the empire, which is the main source of the mercantile clan's obscene wealth. Sensing a civil war on the horizon even before the Zhangwei Emperor's death, Old Qinxi secretly made plans for how he would split his administrated territories among his three children. The middle child, Teng, was given the land along the river Qinjiang, and around the inland sea Qinka; essentially the heartland of the Qinxi clan. The youngest, Ai, was given the offshore islands of Chadao and Daozi, simple farmlands dedicated to growing tea and rice. The eldest, Dong, was sent further afield, north of Rendi City (the capital) to administer the area from Mt Linbao to the city of Si-Sha (However, these borders recently changed due to the conquests of Kralvoc the Grim).
Qinxi Teng, despite his feud with his sister Ai, will always focus on defending the remnants of the Lao's territory, likely sending aid to the large Lao presence to his south. However, if this presence is eliminated, he will focus all his attention on defeating whoever took such a swathe of Lao territory- likely, this would be Rilairazx, Xia-Min Wan, or perhaps even his sister, Ai, if she pursued the route of attacking from the sea. However, if the southern Lao lands do not fall, Teng will be free to attack who he likes and bring the might of the Qinxi Clan's economy to bear. He could attack Zhikong Ma and finish the job that the N'goy Expedition- and his father- could not, bringing the Empire to the 'savage' forests. He could commit to attacking his sister Ai, gaining her valuable farmland and perhaps an end to their perpetual grudge if said attack was successful. At present, Qinxi Teng maintains a fragile non-aggression pact with Dhou Lin, but perhaps he will soon realise that the only way to restore the Lao Dynasty is to defeat the one warlord controlling it's remains like a puppet master.
