Kralvoc the Grim (Crah-Lll-Vock-Thee-Grr-Ihm)

Kralvoc

Kralvoc the Grim, nicknamed the "Disciple of Dabai", is a Hobgoblin warlord vying for control of the Jade Phoenix Throne and the title of Emperor of All Ryusha. Born into the "Dabai's Vanquishers" Hobgoblin Legion, one of the multiple on the offshore island of Jūntuán Dao (Legion Island), Kralvoc was highly spiritual at a young age, feeling a profound connection to Dabai, the Goblinoid God. At the age of 12, the Vanquisher's resident soothsayers ritualisitcally channelled the spirit of Dabai and declared that Kralvoc would inherit the Legion, as well as every other Legion on Jūntuán Dao. They also declared that Kralvoc was to make an oath to Dabai that he would conquer All Ryusha in the God's name, which Kralvoc gladly accepted. Training hard with various weapons, chief among them the Ryushan Jian longsword, Kralvoc readied himself to take up arms. Before doing so however, Kralvoc adventured for a couple of years to gain some perspective on the world as well as gain some practical experience. That period is over now though, and Kralvoc the Grim is back to campaign all the way to Rendi City.   Generations ago, in the 5th Era, political instablity and conflict in Northern Silark caused a massive migration of various majority-Goblinoid tribes and Legions to Ryusha. This wave of migration, while entirely peaceful in reality, looked very much like a military invasion to the Hei Dyansty ruling Ryusha at the time, the Guan Dynasty. As such, scouts and reports began calling these goblinoid tribes the "Jūntuán", or "Military Group". Violence was common by Hei people and soldiers against the Jūntuán, and the hatred towards the Guan Dynasty grew and grew each passing day due to the efforts of the opportunistic leaders that took charge of the unorganised Jūntuán. These leaders saw that the Guan were weakened from instablity similar to that of Northern Silark where the tribes had fled from, and could likely be deposed with little effort if a coordinated war-host could be organised. As such, plots and schemes were drawn up, and Jūntuán warbands advanced upon Rendi City along with all the prominent cities of the Guan such as Guangsha, Qinxi Cheng and Yuanlai. These opportunistic Jūntuán leaders, alongside nobles and ministers who were unhappy with the Guan government and allowed the takeover to happen, proclaimed the end of the Guan Dynasty, and the creation of the new Shun Dynasty in its place. There was nothing relating to the Jūntuán named the Shun in reality, but the name was chosen to imply some level of cultural assimilation from the new Jūntuán ruling class.    The Shun Dynasty was a confused mess. Its Emperors, exclusively Hobgoblins, were permanently of two minds about how much the Jūntuán should attempt to assimilate to Hei traditions or attempt to convert the entire continent to the Jūntuán culture. Also, despite lasting a comparitively short time, around 80 years, the Shun had the most amount of Emperors of any Ryushan Dynasty in history. This was due to the Jūntuán way of choosing leadership relying on abstract "strength" as a ruler rather than simply allowing a ruling clan/family to create the rulers, as well as a cultural idea of challenging leaders to deadly duels for their position (the Hei culture also promotes dueling, but exclusively in wartime or to address slights committed against a person's clan). It has been debated extensively among scholars from around the globe if the Shun Dynasty could have ever succeeded, with some believing that it could have struck a balance between the different cultures with enough time.    Eventually, Hei noble clans grew ever tired of the Shun ways, and organised a counter-government led by the Lao Clan that quickly garnered mass support. This "Lao Dynasty" took control of the major cities and drove the Jūntuán to the island now known as Jūntuán Dao. A few Legions remained on the continent, but stayed mostly to themselves in order to escape violent retribution by the new dynasty. The Lao Dynasty was victorious, and assumed control over most of Ryusha just at the start of the modern 6th Era.
