Session 0/1 - Setup

General Summary

You recently were hired by a nobleman Lord Edward Veere of a nearby state Etrua, to monitor and move some cargo along a major travel corridor to and ensure its safety. Money was exceptionally good, and you only realized later you all were helping to move his family out of the state. Things started to make sense and fall into place - there had been recent reform under the Lords leadrship that left many people angry and felt dismissed. Leaving the nobleman under scrutiny, there were several threats made in secret that recently leaked publically and furthered the civil unrest just in the last few days, as you finished the job.
Ultimately, you're in a new land, and the job landed you in this new place, one domenated by transport and commerce being a major port city. And with some of your connections in the group, those familiar with smuggling operations, the hope for sending the family off-continent and somewhere safe came easy and well rewarded. The Lord was good for a total of 50k gold to split amongst your party, as well as parting with several incredibly valuble magical items from his own horde.
Now, as a team, you’re looking to head back to the town you hailed from, but you’ve been contacted by someone new - an assasin of the local thieves guild who goes by Nieve, who knew about the work you did for the Lord, even brought up the threats, and rebellion in the nearby state. Even worse - she mentioned these rumors, long standing conspiricy theorys about the government, the capital city, and corrupted magic... All nonsense to you. But she offered to show you "the other side of the coin" - the dark parts of the government that exist just beneath the surface. Although your unsure why you specifically were requested, or what exactly the job would entail, you do know it would mean a trip to the state capitol of Tharion, Multicultural Democracy.

And to make matters worse - just after you managed a good nights rest, you also had a follow-up with Lord Edward Veere to invite you back as hired protection. He intends to visit the cities under his purvue to adress the unrest and uproar, but he'll need somoene to watch his back. Eventually, he said he plans to attend a summit at the capitol after a few weeks of traveling. Would be a nice opportunity to see the state in full - and at the end of the field trip, still a chance to see where the sausage is made. You know he pays well, although it may be less exciting than the less-then-legal option...
