Masks
The use of masks is common across the Empire, and has both a strong religious and cultural meaning to Daënfel's people.
At events, masks are not seen as suspicious or conspiratory but as a sign of reverence and respect to a particular part of the Empire's culture.
Masquerades amongst the Empire's nobility are frequent, and include masks taking inspiration from the gods, the animals of the continent, monsters from the Maw, or even more abstract ideas such as geographical locations, trade, magic, or the values of the Empire.
The common folk of Daënfel dress less lavishly, instead using masks mainly for prayer or religious celebrations. Solstices, eclipses, and the turning of the seasons are common times for the Empire's citizens to dust off their masks and celebrate life.
