10. To Trinity
General Summary
Written by Oruwin Fiddlecheek
The non-politically aligned company of the Broken Banner enter Avlars Folly, and advance on Trinity, the second largest city of the Empire. Trinity sits atop a heaving mountaintop as an ancient structure. Massive lifts ascend and descend from the base of the mountain to the grand marble city.
After a brief discussion with the key members of the banner, Clara decides to seek out Kayn, the mason of the something whilst the group decided to visit Oruwins trinket store and then discover some delicious rumors. With this, they looked to find answers about the ritual, assassination and lack of troop support to the front lines (could be problematic)
Ascending into Trinity, the crew see a wide open space of people and things. Like newtown station. Hagglers and smugglers. Adorned by jewels and trinkets. Wealth resides here. To one side reside two large monoliths with a swirl pattern, the same as where the darkness was first seen. Asking around finds a small arena of the twins chosen.
People, mostly humans, push past and zig zag towards the middle of the city, like ferocious river current. Following the flow of the crowd they arrive at an enormous city square. In the middle sits a large 40ft statue of a man holding a flaming sword and scepter; Avlar the god king. Thousands looking towards the wooden framework around the statue. Gallows. Clerics of the gods standing at the ready. In the gallows are 2 naked orcs.
A large armored man addresses the crowd. With a reverberating voice;
“Two traitors to us and the lords above, these 2 forsaken, godless, rogues attack the innocent, our people and structures. These two confirmed to be involved in the assassination of the high prevlot. I will have you witness retribution."
He places the orcs into their places in the gallows.
“I sentence these people to d-"
“WAIT” says Elara Windwalker transmitting magically to Nathaniel. “The astronomer is someone of justice, he would not execute without solid evidence”
Nathaniel pauses and stops, pondering for a moment. “I sentence these people to death”
The orcs fall and are hung with a jolt. With a solemn mood the excitement and rush was disrupted, then resumed as roars resumed and cheers erupted. The crowd disperses and goes about their business.
The gang find their way north to Oruwin’s trinket store. Upon arriving they find what was once the adorable, cozy and warm shopfront completely ravaged. Flowers destroyed, doors ajar and stripped bear with no sign of Olson, Oruwins best friend and BIL who managed the shop. Distraught and devastated, Oruwin powered through as he always has and finds his lockbox behind the lockbox containing a precious treasure left from his sexy dead wife Breedasys. After boarding up the shop to revitalize later, the group head to the Lightstone Inn to find some leads and lodging.
Inside the bustling tavern, Tu Zi attempts to flirt with a grizzly city guard. With an adjustment of rags, fluttering eyes and talk of sustainable clothing, she narrowly avoids arrest. Meanwhile Elara bombs rizzing up Clara.
Pluto obtains the banner a set of rooms for an absolute bargain of double the price and Oruwin speaks to some soot covered gnomes to find out that Olson tried to sell his beautiful trinket store and went to plunder Avalon.
Elliri and Pluto loudly ask about the sons of Avlar and get some uneasy looks from a group of priests. Their Prelot, Aviana, wants to hear of the news and arranges to meet with us on the morn.
With everyone off to bed and Elara for some reason in the barn, she spots a suspicious group entering the tavern. With the group stirring awake they open doors to see a disgruntled bards throat slit and a battle erupts in a cone of silence. The newcomer ranger leaves the restroom and instantly decapitates an assassin, Roknar tosses Oruwin like Tom Brady x Max Payne and the group effectively dispatches the threats, with one on the rooftops escaping.
A note stuck onto the door with dagger reads;
‘Company of the broken banner, my mens incompetence here aside, I do enjoy a hunt against prey that know they are being hunted. Bounty for your heads is 200 gold. Special credence of Roknar the name and Aldan the fighter. I look forward to fighting you again in the future.‘
