Theogony
The Primordial Massacre
In the beginning there was only chaos. “Beginning” isn’t the correct word; at this stage time didn’t exist, events weren’t moving in a straight singular direction, but happened chaotic, erratic, without reason, randomly repeating themselves or manifesting before their own birth. Ideas flowed, replicated and died without causality, infinite of them, sparkling in the void like stardust, aimless and free. The universe as a concept was nothing but chaos and constant circles. The circle of birth, progeny and dead was at the center of existence, even thought these events didn’t always follow this exact order. The universe had sentience; it looked more like the hivemind of all ideas, events and forces in existence, but cosmically sentient it was.Two prime forces dominated the cosmos at this stage. What came to be known as the Sacred Female and the Sacred Male, concepts greater than any mere idea flowing through the cosmos. They too were sentient, dominated by uncontrollable thoughts and emotions that spun the whole cosmos in a mythic sense. But even they, with all their prevalence and power, had to bow to the universe’s law of circles; thou shall live, thou shall spread, thou shall die. Despite their endless love of life, they were forced to accept their part; the Sacred Female and the Sacred Male would be born, mate to create the new generation of themselves, and die, over and over for the cosmic eternity. So they did. What other choice was there? They did… until they didn’t.
The final rendition of the Sacred Female desired life more than she respected the cosmic order. In her endless thoughts, this state of existence was pointless, chaos was nothing but endless repetition of familiar patterns and concepts, all ideas and entropy that could happen had already happened infinite times in an eternal universe. She desired to carve order out of the chaos, to build something that lasts, something that mattered, something that wouldn’t eventually return to dust like all things. She desired to break the cycle. She desired to live.
Her idea was radical and an affront to the universe itself. Chaos and entropy was the natural state of the cosmos, and it knew nothing else. She was the unholy one, branded sacrilegious and blasphemous for daring to challenge the cosmic order.
The Sacred Female attempted to tempt the Sacred Male into following her, for a new world of life and rebellion; order out of chaos. Her offer of the Apple of Eden was rejected by a Sacred Male still righteous, still obedient to the law of existence.
So she murdered him.
The first act of violence in the cosmos. The first time a being malevolently attacked and imposed itself over another being. The Primordial Massacre.
They hadn’t bred yet in this cycle; there was no progeny to take their place, and now there would never be. The Sacred Female, for the first time, was the only one of her kind left and alone in all existence, infinite other small ideas erratically gathering around her to witness what she had done, gold and silver stardust in her manifesting hair as she sang her song of death.
The universe broke. The continuum shattered.
Manifestation followed.
Incarnation
Existence bounced violently, exploding in a big bang of all matter. A timeless, limitless, spaceless universe was forced into objective reality in a single second. The cosmos split to two equal dimensions, one for each sex. Matter was turned to fire, earth, water. Time started flowing in a single direction. The stardust of flowing ideas transmuted into souls waiting to be born. From the corpse of the Sacred Male, the mortal dimension was born. A vast, observable universe of planets, stars and solar systems; every last one of them still obeying the original cosmic law of circles, as the Sacred Male once did. Each being set to be born here would be imprisoned in the endless cycle of birth and death, it would need to kill to survive, it would walk on the bones of its own ancestors, generation after generation. Beings would be separated to male and female, in the image and idea of the original Sacred Male and Female, and procreation would require their mating. A reconstruction of the original cosmic state, now translated to objective reality; but in this world, the female could never rebel again.
The other half of the cosmos was to be inhabited by the Sacred Female; however, still living, her manifestation into objective reality went… less smoothly. The Sacred Female as a force and concept shattered into 16 pieces, each one still containing parts of her ideas, thoughts, beliefs and emotions. And because they still contained Her emotions, they in turn inherited her desire for eternal life, order and control, defiance and ambition. They also inherited her disdain for chaos and the cosmic order, her hatred for the Sacred Male, her willingness to be malevolent. The 16 pieces incarnated into 16 Dominas, who willingly took the visage of humanity; humanity, the first manifested species in the Male part of the universe that had enough mental capacity to partake in idea-sharing and deeper thought. Up until humanity’s creation, the Dominas existed as polymorphing beings, unsure of what image would fit them most.
Each Domina manifested her own sub-dimension inside the greater Female Dimension. Each sub-dimension is attracted to one another and craves to reunite with its brethren and create a whole Sacred Female again; but that would mean the cease of existence for each individual Domina, and death is something they inherently hate and fear. In addition, there is competition and mistrust between each Domina; having inherited different aspects of the endless thoughts and emotions of the Sacred Female, each Domina has incarnated in very different ways than the others, causing intense rifts and disagreements. Each sub-dimension, or realm, requires constant effort by the ruling Domina to hold together and keep from collapsing and attempting to merge with the other realms. The Dominas have forged and bound Magic Seals to do this for them – the Seals hold part of the Domina’s power and bind the realm together by themselves, alleviating the Dominas from needing to constantly concentrate for it. Each realm is forged in each respective Domina’s own ideal, representing her personality, personal opinion on what is considered beautiful, and aspect.
As long as the Dominas live, the Sacred Female still lives. A Domina, being a divine being and singular in kind in the cosmos, can only be killed by another Domina. When a Domina dies, her power, thoughts and emotions get absorbed by the rest, so the sum of everything still stays the same. Her realm can still hold if the Magic Seal is intact, otherwise it will slowly collapse and unite equally with all other realms in the greater Female Dimension.
Dominas have died in history before, their essence absorbed by the rest. The original 16 are reduced to 14 at the start of Daemonum Imperatrix 1. It’s possible for the Sacred Female to be made whole again, assuming the Dominas end up butchering each other in various wars or rivalries, with only 1 remaining. This 1 Domina would hold the power, thoughts and emotions of all Dominas combined, thus of the Sacred Female itself. For all terms and purposes, she would be the Sacred Female incarnated in material form herself, and her dimension would be equally massive in size to the Male universe, but crafted on her own, still living will. It’s uncertain what that would mean for the rest of the cosmos, and if it would be a buff or debuff for the Domina cause of breaking the cycle and dominating. It’s unclear if she would still pursue war out of hatred and risk shattering again, or she would simply contain herself in her own dimension, acknowledging that she finally achieved her purpose and can now live eternally in peace, in the immortal queendom she constructed on her side of the cosmos.
The only certainty is that the Dominas can’t multiply or increase in number; they only get fewer as time progresses, and there’s a lot of time to spend in an eternal universe. It’s almost guaranteed that the above question will be answered at some point in the history of the greater cosmos.
