Lysandra Nocturne, Archmistress of the Crimson Coven

Lysandra is the archmistress of the Crimson Coven, a secretive society of blood witches, and Katrina's right hand and second in command. She is Katrina's most trusted friend, if Katrina has anything close to friendships.

Origins and Early Life

Lysandra Nocturne was born in 3431AE, over 3 millenia ago, at the break of the Eclipse War. Her origins are shrouded in mystery, with even the most detailed records of The Realm of Dusk offering only fragmented accounts of her early years. Born into an ancient lineage of sorceresses, Lysandra exhibited prodigious magical talent from a young age. Her family, renowned for their mastery of blood magic, was both feared and respected. Lysandra's childhood was one of intense strife and struggle, as she lost much of her family, wardens and dynasty members to the Eclipse War. Despite being born with noble blood, she ended up as an urchin in the dirty roads of her family's stronghold, somewhere in the green estates in the south of the realm.
Lysandra's early years on the streets hardened her resolve and sharpened her cunning. She survived through a combination of her innate magical abilities and a fierce determination to reclaim her birthright. The Eclipse War ended with Katrina victorious, but the cost on the realm didn't go unnoticed. Lysandra, among other street urchins, faced great hardship and hunger well into her late teens. The returning battle-witches that survived the war eventually picked her up from the streets and took her under their wing, after sensing great power within her veins. Everyone was trying to learn Shadow Magic during this period, but this particular group was more interested in the ancient blood arts that were prevalent since time immemorial.
These witches became Lysandra's mentors, inducting her into their secretive sisterhood and teaching her the ancient rituals and spells of their craft. Under their tutelage, she grew powerful, her abilities surpassing those of her instructors. With their guidance, Lysandra embarked on a quest to rebuild her family's legacy and restore their honor.

Founding the Crimson Coven

Determined to create a sanctuary for practitioners of blood magic and to consolidate her power, Lysandra founded the Crimson Coven. This secretive society of blood witches was established away from major cities and seats of power, as a minor cult out in the wilds of the realm. The Coven quickly grew in strength and influence, attracting witches from across the realm who were drawn to Lysandra's vision of unity and power.
Under her leadership, the Crimson Coven became a formidable force. The witches engaged in a variety of dark practices, including divination, necromancy, and the crafting of potent blood-based enchantments. Lysandra's influence extended through the Coven's intricate network of spies and informants, making her privy to the realm's most closely guarded secrets.
With Lysandra well into her 40ies at this point, she got recognized as the supreme blood sorceress of the realm, surpassing in innate power even immortal sorceresses in Katrina's employment - but obviously not in pure experience. Katrina, seeking to solidify her rule after the destruction of the Eclipse War, saw potential in the powerful and enigmatic archmistress who had now become the hot new thing in her court's gossiping courtiers. Lysandra was brought upon Katrina's throne and made to pledge her allegience to Katrina. In return, Katrina recognized her authority and prowess as one of the most powerful sorceresses of the realm. Lysandra pledged the support of the Crimson Coven to Katrina's service, and in return, Katrina offered her protection and resources.
Their bond was cemented through a blood pact, an unbreakable magical bond that tied their fates together. As Katrina's right hand and second in command, Lysandra played a crucial role in the governance and defense of the realm. Her strategic acumen and arcane expertise made her an invaluable advisor. She was often entrusted with the most delicate and dangerous missions, from quelling internal dissent to negotiating with external powers.

The Red Baroness

Lysandra's mastery of blood magic is unparalleled. She was allowed entrance to Katrina's royal circle of advisors as she approached her 50ies, finally being allowed to taste the sweet kiss of immortality. She served Katrina dutifully for centuries, being offered lavish perks and gifts in return. Once an urchin, she now commanded vast amounts of fertile land in the green south and various strongholds and mage towers in the frozen north. Her relationship with Katrina cultivated itself for millenia, awarding her the title of her most trusted advisor. Her loyalty to Katrina borders on the zealous, and she views any threat to her mistress as a personal affront.
Lysandra Nocturne's legacy is one of power, loyalty, and dark magic. Her influence within The Realm of Dusk is profound, and her name is spoken with both reverence and fear. If Katrina is the iron fist that brutally smashes the threat, Lysandra is the invisible force that makes sure the threat stays smashed after the fist has turned its attention elsewhere. As the founder of the Crimson Coven and the right hand of the Dark Mistress, she continues to shape the destiny of the realm, ensuring that the shadows of the night remain under her control.
