Highland, Idaho

Highland is a survivor colony in what was once Pocatello, Idaho. It is notable for a specific lack of provable demonic activity in the area, as well as it's lack of defenses. In fact, Highland resembles by all accounts an old world suburb, almost out of an old sitcom. It's residents continue their daily lives as though nothing unusual had happened at all, with a few exceptions. NAFZ scouts who have visited the area report bizarre behaviors of the town's inhabitants, and several disappeared. Highland itself is considered a Non-Demonic Threat of low to moderate level. Highland and it's strange signal seemed to appear instantaneously eight years after the initial demonic invasion, roughly 2030.

The Signal

Highland does not have any demons up to three miles away from it's well-defined borders. Within these borders, a strange radio broadcast constantly plays. During most of the day, it reports on the news of the town, plays music, and generally resembles an old broadcast. The Signal appears to be self aware and communicates with anyone listening to it as the persona of "Betty Kimball", the primary host of the "Highland News Radio". The Signal carries on most of the day from early morning until around six PM as this radio broadcast. The Highland Radio Offices are not inhabited by any known person from scans, though the research team sent in disappeared. The show has other contributors, including a sports reporter and a pair of men running for mayor of Highland. None of the people who appear on the show actually exist, save for citizens of Highland who call in. The show and the inhabitants of Highland appear to believe that they are in some alternate version of 1956 America in which the United States is currently being invaded by the Soviet Union. It warns the inhabitants of the town of NAFZ intervention through antiquated nuclear warning sirens and reports on NAFZ activities as though it was a Soviet-sympathizing rebel movement. Non-NAFZ visitors are usually welcomed by Highland's inhabitants, invited to eat at the local establishments and just generally enjoy the town. The residents ignore or reinterpret questions asked of them about their strange circumstances, do not react to the existence of demons, and do not seem to believe that the United States, and indeed the world, was destroyed.    Each day at 6 sharp, each resident of Highland watches television on a channel that displays nothing but static but emits the same frequencies as The Signal. It is believed that The Signal is controlling the behaviors of the townsfolk and the broadcast is needed to maintain control. After this hour-long broadcast, the Signal continues without it's radio show and the townsfolk continue to live as though they were truly in another time. The people affected by The Signal do not leave Highland, and have been known to kill themselves if extracted by force.
