Aarakocra

Winged Warriors

These fabulous feathered folk have quite the history behind them. Rare to see them amongst our cities and for good reason: they do not originally call our skies their own. From the intriguing plane of Air some have come to find our saphire blue sky and sun-blotting canopies home. These magnicifent creatures have such grand wings and they use them to their fullest capabilites, staying high off the ground and far from the likes of us grounded folk. While befriending them can be a task all on its own, if you can achieve this you have a friend for life. From what my friend Alikar El' Eshae told me, those Aarakocra of the Plane of Air are great warriors, fighting off despicable beings from the Plane of Earth. Striking some accord with the Dukes of Aaqa, a name you will hear once more if you stick around, these brave birds helped defeat somme powerful champion they called the Wolf Spider. The defeat of this unsavory spider did cause the destruction of a powerful artifact that some Aarakocra still search for this day.     To see one of these dashing folk out of their nest is quite the sight indeed. Those that leave only do so for the sake and call of adventure whether it be in search of pieces of this ruined artifact, the wanderlust so many of us feel, or the hidden evils of elemental forces.   As they soar through the skies they strike a threatening form but be not so alarmed, these creatures are as peaceful as they come. Sure, the wrong gesture or undue remark can spark their temper quick, they regain their composure as quick as a snap. However, seeing them flustered is adorable even if it is fleeting. Their relation to birds does not leave at their appearance, as you will find many of them will trill and chirp as they talk, taking on various bird-like quirks. I've even met one with an utter fascination for crackers, but that will be the last time I feed one by hand. Couldn't play my lute for atleast a week after that.   Being short and slender allows them to soar through the skies with ease, wearing light clothing and armor to prevent any weight keeping them grounded as they say. Sporting talons at the end of their arms, theri wings sprout from their back and can extend to impressive spans. And if you see one of the most vibrant and brilliant of hues, don't ask them for any fashion advice. It would seem that the females of the Aarakocra tend to duller feathers and the males have the taste for the spotlight. And if I let a man dress me, I fear I'd walk around with just a rag to my name.
Age: These brilliant birds sadly do not enter your life for long, living to only around 30 years of age. They grow up so quickly though and reach maturity at roughly 3 years of age. Some parents will keep locks of their babies hair, I have met some Aarakocra who actually keep pieces from their shell.
