Session 3: Faith's End
Given the circumstances, there was a clear choice to be made by the party, and that was bringing the Red Rune back to the High Throne of Belrynna. By accomplishing this, the party also accomplishes a few important tasks: separating the Red Rune from Magda as an attempt to relinquish some of her uncontrollable power, getting the book into hands of those the party can trust, and (hopefully in the near future) get the book to be banished from this plane or kept in some other safeguard to keep it from all mortals.
Session Recap:
- On the way back to the Ra'hanaen Forest to pick their airship back up, the party has to contend with an arcane tempest, as well as a pack of daga that have been stalking them.
- After one of the daga fell, the rest retreated (most likely setting a trap for the party to follow), and Magda recklessly gave chase. Though, after some stern yet kind words from Sunder, she was able to calm down.
- At the Ra'hanaen Forest, the party meets back up with Marlemon McFly and sets sail back for Belrynna.
- Once there, Mithrenniel takes control of the Red Rune and asks if it would be alright to pass it off to one of her most trusted arcanists in order to study it.
- On the flight back, Marlemon is instructed to fly farther out into the wilderness to drop them closer to the Obelisk, and, after some expert parachute maneuvers by Oak, the party lands exactly where they wanted to be.
- Here, we see the Obelisk. A large crystalline structure that has been used to withdraw the element inside: Eden Fruit.
- Moments after a tiefling used his earing of sending, a portal opens and a dapper young tiefling steps through the portal and introduces himself as Caecus Bellamor.
- He founded and currently helps run an industrialized city called Dominion, The City of Demons.
- Dominion is ruled by 6 families: the Cantaneos, the Gambinos, the Changrettas, the Gallos, the Grazianos, and the Fabris
- The temptation is to view Dominion as Providence Lite, but where Providence was founded in honor and reverence of the gods, Dominion was founded in spite of them.
- Speaking of, Caecus is a iconoclast through and through with an extreme ideaology. He believes that none of the deities, not even the so-called High Deities are trustworthy. Instead, he has the ability now, with the discovery of the Eden Fruit, to elevate Mortals to a higher being and allow all mortals to rule themselves.
- As of now, Caecus is simply running his city and testing out the effects of the Eden Fruit on himself and the heads of the 6 families. So far, there is no ill side effects.
- Caecus firmly stated that he wants Dominion to be a solace and a safe-haven for the hurt, the lost, and the broken; those who are in pain and yet tossed aside by the gods.
