Session 1: Setting Forth
The beginning of your story has you set in the center of Belrynna, the High Throne. You seven are all scheduled to meet with Mithrenniel Alyseae of the Royal Guardsmen. The Royal Guardsmen are the High Throne's personal taskforce and guard detail (some of you already know them), and Mithrenniel (a wood elf originally from the Ra'hanaen Forest) leads them with courage, power, and cunning.
As we zoom in now to the story at and, you are all being escorted to a large banquet hall by several Guardsmen. The halls are filled with paintings and statuettes of legends and historical figures from the lands of Belrynna. You turn a corner to the left, and walk through an open set of double doors. Standing at the left of the table, in front of the closest seat to the door, is an elegant Ra'hanaen elven woman. She is not your typical "elegance" when you imagine this word in a fantasy setting; she has no flowers in her hair, no decorated dress, no prestine decorum about her nature at all. Her elegance comes from her air of power and authority. As soon as you enter the banquet hall, you can sort of feel her presence -- her aura.
As she stands, she looks to you, giving a kind of smile as you enter. Her shoulder-length auburn hair is pulled back into a warrior's braid, with a small handful of beads braided into a few strands of hair that rest just tot he side of her right brow. Her mithril armor shines in the light of the room, and two expertly crafted daggers rest in sheathes at her sides. Her cloak, complete with a hood and cape, designed with the insignia of both the Ra'hanaen Elves and the symbol of Belrynna rests on the back of her chair.
When she begins to speak, you hear both a calming nature, and a sense of authority in her words. She is not stern, but she is definitely not uncertain either. She speaks plainly and with the utmost clarity. As you stand at the table, she nods and takes her seat. You all follow suit and sit down as well.
"Welcome, Auxilary Taskforce. My name is Mithrenniel Alyseae and I will be briefing you on this quest that the High Throne has deemed you worthy for. We have intel that a mysterious Obelisk is influencing the land of Cleiya, now referred to as the Shattered Lands, and we want to know how and why. You will fly to the Shattered Lands, gather as much intel as you can on the Obelisk, and report via this sending stone directly to me. You will be given a personal airship and a pilot to travel at your earliest convenience, as well as an advance payment of 100 crowns to each of you. When you deliver your intel to me, you will be rewarded with a permanent license to the airship, an additional 500 crowns to each of you, and an insignia of the High Throne, which will grant you untethered travel into and through Belrynna and most allied nations.
A few suggestions I give to you for free: choose a new name for your taskforce. And make it catchy, I do not wish to address you as Auxilary Taskforce the next time we communicate. Secondly, eat up. There is plenty of food, and you will likely not get this much expensive food for free after you leave this hall. And lastly, you all were chosen by the High Throne for a reason, and if there's anything I've learned about those two, they're seldom wrong about their judgements of character. Trust in your instincts, trust in your skills and your knowledge, and trust in each other; and you will return having completed the quest with almost trivial ease. Now, any questions?" As she starts grabbing different foods and putting them on her plate.
Plot points
- The party finishes their meal with Mithrenniel and heads out to the airship to meet the pilot.
- The pilot's name is Marlemon McFly, an Aeronautics and Flight intern at the Aethergarde University.
- On the airship ride, the party gets time to introduce themselves through one of Marlemon's borderline cheesy get-to-know-you questions.
- The party lands in the Ra'hanaen Forest, as it was the safest airspace seeing as Mithrenniel has ties both with the Ra'hanaen elves and the High Throne of Belrynna.
- There, the party meets Jonah, the chieftain of the Ra'hanaen elves, who quickly encourages them to assemble what they need and leave for the Obelisk as soon as possible.
- On their way, the party stumbles upon a garlicle village, where they hear of a young distraught girl named Magda. They task the party with making sure she is okay.
- During the night, however, the party encounters their first Obelisk-influenced predator of the Shattered Lands: the crocotta.
- Finally, they find the cave where Magda was rumored to have gone, kill a deathweaver spider, and its mummified zombies, and save Magda.
