Session 12.5: Wishes and Divines

As more and more continues to occur in this world, it is obvious to most that the world is on the brink of another era that could prove to be detrimental to the mortals of the world. Almost as if the world of Cynthia was a pot on a rolling boil, and the water is reaching the precipice, seconds from boiling over. And a few of you have had different ideas on how to keep it from doing so.

The First Wish

Frustrated and determined to rid the world of the Eden Fruit, something that he believed would bring an end to Cynthia, just like the first Age of Arcanum almost did before, Sunder turned to the Jade Monkey, in desparation and made the first wish.   The wish was as follows: "I wish that all Eden Fruit powers would be taken from everyone in Cynthia as well as all Eden Fruit left within the Obelisk and Dominion would be destroyed to the point that no more can be produced."   The Jade Monkey's eyes went wide, filled with giddy eagerness. "If it's a wish you want, then it's a wish you shall get. Let's just hope that this wish is one you won't soon regret." And as he finishes the rhyme, the primordial arcane magic of the wish spell begins to sink into and reshape reality.   The first thing you hear is a massive, low-pitched pulse sound. Like a bomb detonating miles under the water's surface. You look towards the east, out of the window of your airship. Large strands of divine essence begin dispersing, before disappearing above the clouds or behind the trees. The Obelisk has been shattered, and the essence is being scattered across the Planes, but one thing is for certain: Cynthia shall hold the Eden Fruit no more. ". . . all Eden Fruit powers would be taken from everyone in Cynthia as well as all Eden Fruit left within the Obelisk . . ."   Then the next thing to fill your ears are the will-shattering explosions to the west. The sight is enough to make your heart fall through the floor beneath you. The technological marvel is now a burning pile of ashes and screams. Foundations shattered amidst the few buildings that are left standing only enough to prove as awe-inpsiring depictions of utter cataclysm. ". . . and Dominion would be destroyed to the point that no more can be produced . . ."   Your airship is left in silence as you all process the truth that has made itself known. First, the Eden Fruit is gone. It no longer resides within Cynthia; you know not where it was scattered, but at the very least, it is not within mortal grasp. Second, and more humbling, the City of Demons shall rebel no longer against the gods. In ancient times, there were mortals that sought babili -- the gateway to the heavens, and yet all they ended up with was babel -- confusion and distress. It seems that history has been repeated. This metaphorical Babylon will remain as a reminder as to what happens when you rebel against the Divines, for better or for worse.   Marlemon, your once goofy and lighthearted pilot, exits the cockpit, his face pale with horror. His tone, once light and bouncy, has taken a cadence of meloncholy and disbelief. "Tell me that wasn't us. Tell me those people are ok." Answers to his pleas are not so readily given.

What's Next?

So, here we are, destined to contemplate our actions, as well as the consquences of wielding arcana. Magic comes at a price, of course, and it seems the world has been reminded of this. I wonder if this will steer the world towards a different era. No matter, that query is not for the present.   Instead, the Eden Fruit has been solved. The fate of those who had ingested it to a life-changing degree -- such as Caecus Bellamor, the Six, and Magda -- as well as the spirits of Cleiya, made manifest through the power of the Eden Fruit, are all unknown to you. But the Eden Fruit is gone, and you must move forward. The only obstacle that remains in your way is the civil war that seems to be brewing in Avalon, and you can be confident in one thing: the wish spell cannot affect the gods.
