A'Yap

Strong, Resilient, and Sharp

For a long time, the Guardians used a perverted race of creatures known as Orcs to wage war against the Embodied, but the beasts were not easily controlled and warred against the Guardian Races nearly as much as the Embodied. Taking what they liked from the Orcs, they created the A'Yap, a large, powerful race designed to fight in place of the Orcs. Their first mission was to kill the orcs off, but soon were used almost blindly against the Embodied Races with abandon.

Designed for a cool and calculated form of war, the A'Yap are strong and silent, keeping their bodies strong and their minds sharp. While the Orcs that were enslaved by the Guardians were savage, the A'Yap were specifically designed to be rational in their warfare. Even now they keep this ever-present mind, taking in all they see and being aware of a best action.   Clanish, much like the dwarves, A'Yap prefer simpler, more rural lives with their family, but yearn for well-rounded individuals. Young adult A'Yap are often pressured to go and experience the world. Typically they do this by finding a profession in the larger cities or choosing a career that travels often. Their size and penchant for this has made them popular soldiers and mercenaries.   Though some A'Yap find a life outside their small clans more to their liking, most will return to their clans to start their families, usually later in life. For those that stay, they are generally well-liked and often respected in their new communities.

Slow to react

A'Yap are clever, but rarely quick to react to what they discover until they feel confident they have sufficient information. In most of life, this makes them reliable and often right, though sometimes failing to grasp fleeting opportunities. In combat, they are looked to for which targets to pursue and what actions are best to take.   Some pity the A'Yap however. Their lives, no longer than a humans, typically are filled with far fewer stories, as their conservative approach to most of life events. Though exceptions are common enough, the presumptions many hold are somber. A'Yap themselves do not hold this viewpoint, instead believing that they are making the most of their lives by having as much information as possible.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tall and wooly, their average heights are easily 7 to 8 feet tall, with the most massive even reaching near 9 feet. Their heavy bodies generally hover around 300 lbs, but approaching 400 is not uncommon. Their massive shapes are completely covered in fur.   Though humanoid in shape, they are noted for having almost exaggerated looking features. Their hands and feet both seem larger than necessary, almost comical in size. Their heads sit on necks so thick that is looks to be more of an extension of their shoulders. Even their noses, though covered in fur, are wide and bulbous.   Their faces are equally covered in fur, with deep set, dark eyes that seem to pierce all they look at. On the sides of their heads, slightly higher set than most races, are two pointed ears able to shift in different directions.

Playing in a Setting

While the assumption of playing an A'Yap in martial roles is not incorrect, their resilience allows them to fall into other roles naturally, being hardy for their class.   D&D 5e
