Nuclear Power - The Beal Pack

Nuclear fusion is something that we as a race have known about since the middle of the 20th century. We've even made weapons of mass destruction with that knowledge. The issue between weapons and energy source is in controlling that fusion reaction. Traditional nuclear energy facilities require massive structures with complicated circuitry and huge amounts of water to cool the reaction core. Tabletop or 'cold fusion' he been something that scientists keep claiming that they have achieved, but are never able to reproduce the process. 
Cold fusion would, first of all, negate the need for such tremendous water reserves for cooling the core. Secondly, it would seriously reduce the amount of shielding and insulation surrounding the core. It would, in effect, be the preliminary step towards portable fusion power. Portable fusion power has the potential to change the face of the world as we know it. Just in the area of military and defense, a portable fusion reactor changes everything.
In April of 2059, an inventor working out of his garage, on Bradley Beal, created the world's first portable fusion reactor. It was about the size of a large backpack, and was able to provide 200MW of sustainable power vis various power connectors. He named the device a 'proton pack', but is traditionally known as a Beal reactor, or Beal pack in honor of the man who invented it. The license for manufacturing these packs was quickly purchased by several corporations, and mass production began immediately.
Since its initial incepotion, the technology for smaller generators have been perfected, though they generate substantially less power. Larger versions have also been produced, typically about the size of a semi truck trailer, these reactors can be deployed quickly to anywhere in the world. This makes them ideal for disaster recovery.
