Originally the Ai Virtual Intelligence: Operations and Logistics Assistant, she was designed as an AI for the cruiser Aegis, as an attempt to reduce the vessel's crew compliment.
When Aegis participated in stopping the Mariwather Coup her career came to a halt. Though that incident cemented her legend, office politics led to her being mothballed in an attempt to quietly forget about one of the darker moments in the history of the Alliance of Heroes
When the AoH decided to volunteer a vessel for the Voidwalker Project, they chose the Aegis. V.I.O.L.A would be assigned to work as she always had: supporting the new captain, and keeping the ship running
She believed it to be a death sentence. Instead it became a new life
V.I.O.L.A already controlled most of the ship through a series of remotes, but as the process began, she began to feel the ship herself. Instead of creating someone new, the process took the being who was already the ship, and just made it more real
As her original form was built on a holographic projection system, she retains some of that ability to project herself rather than being actually present. She is more a part of the ship that can take physical form rather than a physical being. Though she has a full body, she can use a series of projector drones to allow her to project a semi-solid figure of her design. In base form, she is a youngish woman with a short haircut that curls around the side. She wears a grey, martially cut uniform, and though she usually projects a service pistol on the uniform, she can use the holographic projection system to shoot beans of light without using the weapon itself. Her incorporeal form is not very strong, being incapable of carrying heavy loads, and is vulnerable if the projector drone itself can be spotted through the hologram No matter what form she uses, it always remains a transparent blue, a feature shared by her actual body
At her core, Viola is a very by-the-books person. Protocol is protocol. But from her crew she got much more, gaining both mental and tactical flexibility. Though she continues projects herself as prim and proper, the very model of an officer, she is much more of an energetic person than she wishes she was. Her sense of self righteousness, already massive, increased greatly after her awakening, and is combined with a strong stubborn streak. Much of her is conflicted, part of her glad she can be more than she was, but another part of her worried that she is no longer herself.
