A squirly bundle of nerves and antiseptic, Maya is an intense germaphobe, more at home in a janitor's closet than a machine shop. But when she ended up in the position of Chief Engineer after a personnel snafu, she took to her job with gusto, making sure she filled her role as best she could. She’s fanatical about making sure everything is perfect and shiny, never letting a single grinding gear or bit of scuffed paint pass her by. In her off time, she dreams of making the ultimate sanitizer.

Personal history

Horrified by her father's stories of how the Terran Empire used her mother's people, when she was young she dreamed about coming back home and liberating her people. Though she still has that dream, it has been tempered over the years by the realities of an intersystem revolution and the massive power of the Terran Empire. She joined the Voidwalker Project as a janitor, using her hatred of dirt that surpassed even her hatred of the Empire, rising in seniority through diligence and competence.
Then in a still confusing incident involving the previous Chief Engineer and some rather harsh words, she ended up with the position by being too close. Though she realized it probably wasn't a permanent position, she took to it with gusto, throwing herself into it as long as she had it. Picking up the discipline quickly, her ability to pick out small issues and find the root of the problem covered for her initial inexperience, and the temporary position became far more permanent.
