General
Power Generation and Storage:
Bioplasma-bioreactors: Biological equivalent of a plasma reactor used to generate power using plasma systems. Enzymatic bioplasma plants are used to inject plasma into the system.
Fat-protein storage units: Stores power as chemical energy in the form of biological sugars, which can then be converted back into usable energy when needed.
Propulsion:
Plasma-fuelled Fusion Drives: Fusion engines using waste plasma from reactors to provide significant thrust to a craft via controlled venting of a fusion reaction.
Oxygen-based RCS: Maneuvering jets using the controlled venting of oxygen from photosynthetic reactions in the plant-based organisms making up parts of the ship to provide thrust.
Solar Sails: Sails using the solar wind to provide limited propulsion at cruising speed. Fragile, but very energy efficient for travel compared to many other kinds of propulsion.
F-T-L Propulsion: Subspace-interacting solar sails
Uses the solar sails along with an FTL drive to enter a region of subspace that, in effect, greatly amplifies the radiation expulsion of stars in realspace, using this in conjunction with massive sail-like structures that unfold to catch the stellar winds, ships are capable of rather high speeds with this, though obviously, destroying these sails when they're unfolded can drastically lower their ability to enter FTL
Computation:
Biological computing organisms: Most bioships have an extensive “brain” organ that functions like the biological equivalent of a computer, combining a more conventional biological brain with some elements of electromechanical computing in concept.
Sensors:
Eyes: Less of conventional eyeball based sensory organs and generally much more specialised biological visual sensing organs.
LIDAR: Broadband variable-wavelength search lidar used to identify targets using more electronic means than the biological eye based sensors.
Solar wind senses: At very close ranges a bioship is able to sense disturbances in the solar wind of a system, allowing it to see stealth ships that move through it without compensating for their disturbance.
Tractor Beams:
A short ranged device designed to draw in or reduce the mobility of ships caught in the relatively weak gravitational beam. At closer distances it is supported by biological tentacles designed to physically grab onto the ship to give it more gripping power. It is however more of a utility then a weapon, and can also be used to manipulate objects or transfer them.
Military
Armaments:
Biohybrid Coilguns: Electromagnetically propelled shots fired from accelerating coils much like standard coilguns, but with a twist; these weapon systems are made using biological matter capable of rapid regrowth to facilitate a limited self repairing capability to parts of the weapon and reduce the requirement for metal parts, while important mechanical parts are made of a hybrid material of cellulose interwoven in lattice with a comparatively larger ratio of metal in order to allow it to be integrated fully with the bioship. The weapon itself as well as using conventional ammunition is also capable of using biological ammunition designed to cause post-penetration damage via carrying insect-containing gel sacks as well as a small amount of highly concentrated bio-acid.
Biodrone Nests: Biological missile critters containing bioplasma and using natural biological solar sails to get to the target, if a little slowly. They explode releasing their bioplasma on contact and are guided to their target by psy. These can be grown on board the target ship and are usually fired in swarms, able to reach around one lightsecond of range.
Bomb-Pumped Laser Missile Launchers: Bomb-Pumped Laser missiles able to be fired out of a launch bay and then self-guide towards a target. Relies on causing an internal detonation which is briefly focused through lenses as a laser at the target, before the missile is destroyed. Fairly standard and is not integrated with any specific biological parts.
Active Defensive Measures:
Standoff bio missile point defense: System using biological “bee” missiles. They fire a large volume of bioacid needles to knock out incoming soft skinned targets such as missiles. A single missile is quite large with a significant amount of small needles available to it.
Close in point defense guns: Quintuple point defense mounts using a longer ranged 30mm automatic railcannon for target interception before switching to a set of 4 .50cal railminiguns for close-in work. Utilises explosive ammunition heavily along with limited position-signalling tracers in some rounds. Most effective against soft skinned targets, with the 30mm being more effective against armoured ones.
Passive Defensive Measures:
Biohybrid Shielding: Shield system utilising electromagnetically suspended particle shields in order to function effectively as both an electromagnetic shield and as a particle shield. Biological organs feed power into the generators, which produce 4 layers of particle shielding and 4 nodes of strong electromagnetic field in line with them. Particle barriers are mainly used against projectile attacks, while electromagnetic screens are better oriented against lasers and other forms of electromagnetically charged attack like residually charged coilgun slugs, charged particle weapons and plasma weapons.
War Oak: a form of metallo-organic lattice armour formed by combining conventional starship armour with a cellulose/lignin organic matrix. Much lighter and significantly stronger than conventional monobloc, composite or simple lattice armour. Is produced using another form of starship armour. Despite its advantage in strength against general weapons fire over a large amount of low and mid tech armours, it is susceptible to being severely weakened by bioweapons due to its biological nature.
