Continental, temperate world. Population 4.5 Bn.
A minor Rupeean system with one habitable world, originally an independent human-dominated settlement that was peacefully absorbed into the Rupeean sphere of influence. A large proportion of the naturalised Rupeean human population has some ancentral ties to Curieal.
Curieal's atmosophere is oddly CO2 rich, and its biosphere is the product of an almost failed Terran terraforming and life-seeding project. While foliage has taken root throughout the planet, woody plants dominate and are grotesquely overexpressed. Brightly coloured, flowering low shrubs take the place of grasses and ground cover, while hard-stemmed vines and creepers threaten to overtake structures. Trees grow in abundance and tend towards towering barrel-shaped trunks that drink greedily of the carbon-rich atmosphere. Thick bark deters herbivores, large insects and darting reptiles, who have adapted to digest the fibrous, nutrient-rich heartwood of smaller trees.
The culture of Curieal is wholly naturalised, blending with and influencing in turn the landship-oriented sailors of Tarii Bandir. Here the landship guilds also dominate society but do not often travel freely. Instead, guilds operate forestry and agricultural projects with jealous obsessiveness and a characteristically Rupeean care for nature's entwined strength and fragility. The system's most profitable exploits are dense and hardy Klodiswood timbers and the wasplike and aggressive Firewings, a particular delicacy but as dangerous to prepare as they are to harvest. Outlying forests are a haven for Wulvaran hunters and ranchers, seeking and introducing the husbandry of predatory reptiles such as the short-winged Liza Wyrm.
Curieal's location, between Jusarraa Bandir and all three core worlds, mean they benefit enormously from Rupeean-Arken trade. A small but growing enclave of the canid aliens have settled on Curieal or its attendant stations, promising another shift in the system's cultural makeup in the future.
