S1 E2: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, part 1
General Summary
- The Travelers found the sinkhole at the entrance to the complex, and after investigating with care, proceeded to slide down the rocky debris to the room below. Over the lintel of a locked door with a keyhole in the keystone was "The Vault of Fitoerana" - the Vault of rest, in Kaalengi. They found a key among the clay figurines, opened the door and proceeded on.
- Around the bend in the hallway, they reached a set of closed bronze doors, and when they tried opening them, a thick wall of stone bamboo closed behind them, blocking any retreat or escape back the way they had come; the only exit lay ahead, and the bronze doors opened without any further trouble.
- Inside the room, etched with the phrase "The roost of Kalka-kili" is an enormous hermit crab in a snail shell, too big to leave the room, guarded and cared for by an angry lobster-man with poor short term memory named Nengat who sent them to the east to find the Goblin Prince as he believes he has seen Eebo Nibbis after all.
- They found a blocked stairway at the end of a hall, and a partially collapsed doorway leading into what looks like a tomb, and the doorframe is etched with "Here lies Enkaboun, priest of Enkatut, master of the others, who is like the wind in the night!" The party quickly agrees that it seems like a super terrible idea to disturb Enkaboun, so they return to the Roost of Kalka-kili and are verbally accosted by Nengat a second time. He sends them to the west, instead.
- They find a room that has flooded and drained multiple times, with a number of waist-high stone pedestals with small silver pyramids, all fallen and smashed but for one in the corner. It has three symbols: A lion, a leopard and a wolf. Looking through the muck they find additional silver pyramids with different combinations of animals: One has an Elephant, a Hadrosaur and a Zebu; another has a Hippo, a Leopard and an Eagle, and a third has a Gazelle, a Wolf, and a Leopard. They're fairly sure that each animal is associated with a certain Kaalengi God or other, but - after freaking out over a 'green slime' that turns out to just be algae - they find that the puzzle is either irrelevant or has already been solved; the door to the next area is unlocked.
- From this room they move into the passageway at the other end, and a stream of water flows down this hall and around a corner. In the darkened and overgrown hall they find a large, 12' tall warrior statue along the right side of the main passage, blocking access to a narrow passage; the walls of both are coated in a dangerous acidic white slime formed from long term moisture permeating a layer of limestone. The statue has gemstones of some kind for eyes, and one of them has been nearly - but not completely - removed, hanging on the statue's cheek by some kind of thread or chain. Between outstretched forearms the statue is holding a flat panel, like an open scroll or book, which looks as though something was supposed to be positioned there, but it no longer is. A massive sword pommel is visible slung behind its left shoulder. Ten feet or so past the statue are a set of large bronze doors with significant dark tarnish, with water trickling underneath them.
