Resurrection Plague Lifts; Injured Celestial Recovers Slowly

DATELINE: 26 Aishapriel's Month, 12090: Pancelestial Cathedral, Temple Shores   The Resurrection Plague, the common name given to a mysterious and selective disorder primarily affecting those who had undergone a restoration of their life force by magical means in the past, reached a widespread peak yesterday, with 211 reported deaths in the capitol city attributed to the withering, wasting disease; tragically most of those who perished, 126 of these individuals, were under the age of 16. However, good news followed on the wings of bad, as today not only have no deaths been reported, but individuals suffering from the plague have recovered sharply, and are well on the mend.   The cause of the disease has never been firmly established, but it has been reported throughout the entire empire and indeed throughout the world far beyond our borders, including Toz, Minon, Dregath, Cekic, Elinia, and even in the Caetica and Inimsuji, as well as the entire battle line of Utheria in the war against the Kylmen. Mystics and wizards suggested that, if other planes actually exist, the disease would not be able to cross those boundaries; but verifiable evidence of that nature is obviously hard to come by.   A connection to the transplanar event reported in Volsin Province just before the first reported cases seems likely, as well as a cause rooted in the arrival of the gravely injured daughter of Arsisiel, in physical form, during that event. While recovery of the other sentients suffering from the resurrection plague has been swift, the Angel is still in very serious condition and is not assured to live, at least if her physiology is analogous to that of lesser mortals who need skin and blood in some form. She has reportedly not yet regained consciousness an remains in a comatose, perhaps contemplative state. Other experts speculate that this is connected to the events that transpired in the Wizards college during and after the spring tournament this past year, and the ongoing litigation against the college is likely to uncover more information if this is the case.   The Autarch gave a brief but reassuring message to the people of the empire that while the source is unlikely to have been inside the borders of the empire, that the root cause will be established and made public, as will the firm steps taken to prevent such a widespread and dangerous disease from re-occurring. He was pleased to report that there were no deaths in the royal family, and that he remained unaffected; reports that one of his two sons had suffered the disease seem to have been proven incorrect.   Initial fears that this disease was some form of germ weapon or cursed attack by the cowardly Kylmen have also proven to be false, as the shapeshifters appear to have suffered dire losses over the nine days, with as many as six thousand of their soldiers killed on multiple fronts; indeed, some darker segments in the population outside the Empire have voiced a suspicion, completely unsubstantiated, that this disease originated as a biological attack against the Kylmen by our military. The Autarch was quick to dismiss this rumor, stating that if Khazig had the capability of developing and using such a tactic, they would certainly have the capability to limit the effects only to the enemy. The Autarch likewise dismissed the idea that this plague came from the Kylmen on the same grounds - the ability to unleash such a disease presupposes the capacity to limit it only to the enemy.   Likewise the frenzied moralizers and ultra-religious segments of the population who claimed that this disease was nothing short of a divine judgement against false gods and false life seem to have been proven incorrect; while total deaths over the nine days amounted to over 1,250 in the city and an estimated 17,000 across the Empire as a whole, the vast majority of these were people who, in addition to having been restored at least once in the past, were also in an injured state which had already compromised the amount of further damage they could survive.   One report connects this event to the Wizard's College via a less direct route, citing the strange effects of the corrupting ash fall from the Wizard's College fire, and the assumption that an unknown alchemical mix created by the fire may have accidentally caused this plague. That event took place several months ago, however, and was followed up on by the Baron's Council of Volsin as well as other local authorities. Intriguingly, the Baron Council of Volsin was not available for comment, and at least some members of the council had evidently been dispatched abroad to follow up on other leads, though what has become of that expedition is not currently known. The Regent Heir of Naarod, Camilla Engel Rakkir, returned to her familial estates in Zauzet this morning from points unknown, but declined an interview with the Archivists' Guild. However she did assure us that these events had nothing to do with the council or anything else in the Empire; this has in turn generated some curiosity as to how she would be in a position to make a blanket statement of that nature.   Both the Caliphate of Toz'Aizhir and The Monarchy of the Commonwealth of Minon and Ysont have joined with the Khazigiri Empire in relief and medical efforts across the three continents to mitigate the suffering and attempt to save the worst cases where possible; interestingly this disease has seemed to disproportionally affect adventurers and the wealthy classes, as those of more moderate means could never afford resurrection magics in the first place.
