Drunken Homicidal Wizards Mar Angel Victory

Dateline: 15 Mdnothiel's Month - Greater Colosseum, Khazigur Revels District   The end of the 4-week long Imperial Spring Tournament was a gripping, if characteristically brief encounter in which Lord Volsin, Baron Grims Angel soundly defeated Daggy Chirir, suffering only cosmetic damage in the contest. Daggy Chihir was able to vanquish Trihard, the summoned Triceratopsian mount of his opponent, a paladin of Typhoneth. Unfortunately for the Thri-Kreen martial arts master, his bobbing, weaving and natural armor were no match for Lord Volsin and his Godhammer, which blasted arcs of lightning and peals of thunder into the monk. Chihir followed up with a whirlwind of attacks, including an attempt to stun Angel which failed, and Angel was able to retaliate and end the match by driving the hammerhead block of iron directly to the mandibled face of his opponent, who went down hard and bug-eyed (as ever).   Unfortunately even as the final blow was landing, a group of obviously intoxicated wizards in the Pavillion of the College of Wizards vomited at the same moment, perhaps in an ill-timed prank, and fighting broke out in the crowds which swept up the combatants as well as other wizards, who in a drunken rage unleashed highly inappropriate fireballs on their peers and underclassmen; after which time the remaining wizards fled the pavillion, the Colosseum and the Revels District, fleeing back to the main Dormitory of the Wizards' college and evidently barricading themselves in, rightly frightened for their lives after their fireballing antics triggered the defenses of the Autarch's personal Varangian Guard Praetorians. It appeared that Daggy was injured slightly in the fighting, presumably as he was already weakened in the contest he had just lost, but seemed uninjured and did not seek treatment after the dust settled.   At the moment, the main dormitory on the campus is on lockdown, though it is unclear if this is from the authorities outside, the wizards inside, or perhaps both. The Autarch was uninjured and the fighting did not impact the Royal Viewing Platform, but took place directly in front of it. The Autarch was quick to downplay any threat to his person, calling it a tragic sign of moral weakness at the college that a prank should end in fireballs and death for the pranksters, all out of proportion to a crime that normally simply carries a 20gp fee or a public flogging if the guilty party doesn't have the means to pay. The threat to innocent onlookers and injuries to other wizards and a hapless wine vendor also make it likely that serious charges will be levied against the college and significant censure may be applied, up to and including the revocation of some of their certifications and the quarantine of on-campus housing, forcing the wizards to take up lodging where it can be had in the Palerine, scattered throughout the district and paying a premium rather than dormitory rates. The wizards who cast the fireballs will be executed when they are identified and apprehended on charges of uncontested murder, and anyone found harboring the criminals will be under the same charge. The Torturer's Guild has posted a bounty of 500 gold for positive arrests, but cautions that unless the execution is carried out by a member of the Torturer's Guild, the execution order will simply be transferred to the citizen who takes it upon themselves to kill a suspect.   Despite the unfortunate ending of the event, Lord Volsin's victory in the finals is a record-breaking achievement for a first-time combatant that can only be tied, and never beaten. Once the results are certified, which is expected later today, Angel will be awarded all the prizes in bank certificates and requisition papers for troops at the Imperial Fortress, and given the layout of his quarters in the House Absolute to decorate as he sees fit from the selections of furnishings as well as any of his own pieces he wishes to include. It is unknown whether he plans to keep the prizes or cash them out for gold, or a combination of the two. The Sculptor's Guild will be creating a statue of the winner to place in the Grand Colonnade's upper arch row with other significant tournament winners, and The Wings of Gold will be auctioning off the linens and glassware from the rooms Baron Angel used as part of their annual Charity Event benefiting the relocation of battered women from the Quags.   The celebration parade will be held tomorrow morning at 10AM, walking the Grand Colonnade from the House Absolute to the Pancelestial Cathedral, and back to the House Absolute via the Temple Way. The Witches Guild assures our readers that the weather will be bright and seasonably warm despite the rains of recent days.   While the main dormitory is on lockdown, the rest of the college campus including the Teniel Library are open as usual. Students are expected to attend their classes as per normal and are reminded that midterms are next week.
