Calendar - Basilidean, Valentinian
Months of the Year
The Basilidean and Valentinian rites both use a similar calendar identifying notable events in civic and spiritual life. The sheer volume of saints and miraculous occurences over the 12,000+ year history of the Imperium means that any given day may be the feast day of dozens of such commemorations, and a few are carry-overs from the ancient Cumaeans (Sol Invictus and Coriolis Lux, demarcating the great festival of the ancient days).
It's important to note that this calendar and these events are primarily used within the Imperium and across the civilized lands of the First Continent; the adherents of Kir Vashti in the east use a completely different itinerary of important dates and feast days, the Nauthiians of Pilaan have a different but similar calendar that significantly overlaps (their culture is older but has been aligned with the Imperium for several thousand years), and the other Elven cultures are even less similar to this. Nevertheless, the cultural gravity of the Imperium is such that even those who aren't citizens and don't observe the feasts are at least aware of many of them.
Also fundamental to understanding the calendar, and the campaign world itself, is while our modern calendar and concept of time is very linear and progressive, from the past to the present and from cause to effect, in the Orbis the cyclical nature of the calendar is much more pervasive. Things happen, causes still have effects, but the world is big and old and it spins and repeats, spins and repeats, spins and repeats. Every day, in short, is not really a new day - it's part of the blessed cycle of days, another chance at the wheel. But the wheel is forever a wheel, and this day will come around again, given enough time.
While the degree of religious fervor for ecumenical holidays varies from person to person, even the most secular citizen enjoys a break from their labors and the celebrations of the rhythms of the year which have been repeated by their ancestors for millennia, and which create an unbroken chain in some cases going back more than a thousand human generations for Sol Invictus and Coriolis Lux.
