8 Children Missing After Confirmed Quaggoth Attack on Zoo Field Trip

Dateline: Khazigur Revels District, Park West; 3 Adelis' month, 12090: Tragedy struck a group of Barrenyke district children and their chaperones today as a field trip to the Imperial Zoo ended with the apparent kidnapping of at least 8 of the children by Quaggoths.
Eyewitnesses to the unprovoked and unexpected attack said that the Quaggoths "...came boiling up out of the reptile house and were grabbing the first people they got to." Originally reported as escaped apes from another part of the zoo, which would be a more reasonable explanation, authorities confirmed all the apes remained safe and accounted for in a different section of the Zoo, while these creatures came up through an open drain leading to the storm sewers under the city. Multiple reports of the body type and appearance as well as some fur collected at the scene further disambiguated the nature of the attackers as Quaggoths, the vile ape-bears of the underdark, and no natural ape.
The names of the children are being withheld in respect to the families involved. It remains unclear whether the Quaggoths specifically targeted these children or if they were merely the closest targets for a larger smash-and-grab attack; additional unconfirmed reports came in yesterday afternoon around the same time regarding similar attacks in the Quags near the west docks, in Gulcrest at the City Cemetary, in the Colosseum area near the hippodrome in the Revels, and near the former site of St. Ulven's Orphanage, closed down late last year over allegations of heresy, tax fraud and child abuse. In several of these incidents, Grimlocks rather than Quaggoth were identified as the attackers; however these events have not been confirmed and the number of missing or loss of life are not known. It does not appear that these attacks specifically targeted young people.
Taron Carver, head of the Varangian Domestic Invesigations Branch, assures readers that the matter is being treated with the highest priority and that if necessary, field assets will be recalled to the city to maintain the safety of the population throughout all the districts; at this time the home guard are being redeployed to investigate all reports of foreign creatures entering onto city streets, homes, businesses, or other civic locations.
Classes at Our Lady of the Dusty Soul Elementary School have been cancelled for the rest of the week due to the kidnapping. Authorities are committed to recovering the children alive as soon as they can be located and recovered, and hopes are high that the children have not perished yet; the Quaggoth's plans that led to their kidnapping are not known at this time, however.
