Nightglass Altar

Nightglass Altar is the largest mesa on Cultivo, large enough to house a city and its suburbs, it has been the capital of Getor and now New Getor for more than a thousand years.

Geography

Nightglass Altar is a large flat mesa in the center of Orden. It juts more than a mile up from the surrounding desert, and measures more than 400 square miles across. The cliffs are made of light, weather-smoothed sandstone, occasionally bisected by huge vertical veins of obsidian, stretching from the base of the mesa to its peak like huge black geysers.   The surface of the mesa has been largely irrigated using the natural aquifer that wells up beneath it, and as such is covered in lush farmland and grassy plains.   The steep cliffs of the mesa are pockmarked with small round holes, the nests of the indigenous Bluebolt Raptors.   Due to the territorial bluebolts and the lack of any other access, the denizens of Orden long ago carved several tunnels into the sides of the mesa which act as access to the summit.

/*In the past, these long, winding tunnels were open to any and all visitors, but ever since the fall of civilization, guard outposts have been installed at the base and the summit ends of each of these tunnels. In addition, there are large doors of reinforced sandstone that have been installed at the base of the mountain, normally, these are open and integrated into gigantic busts of four of the Creadores carved into each side of the mesa.*/

Fauna & Flora

The cliffs are the natural habitat of the Bluebolt Raptor. The plateau upon the mesa is the wellspring of a natural aquifer which makes it somewhat of an oasis in the water-scarce desert.

Natural Resources

Obsidian can be harvested from the sheer cliffs surrounding the mesa.   Water is plentiful due to an underground aquifer and so the soil can sustain crop growth.   The mesa provides natural fortifications with its sheer cliffs and acts as a fortress, thanks to the ability to grow food.
