Eindurand

Eindurand, the focal point of industry in Crystalis, is a wealthy mercantile republic that lies in the southeastern region of Anatole . This small country has made a name for itself through not only their unique governing style, but their national focus on textiles, artistry, and economic ideas. Originally a collection of smaller nation-states, Eindurand consolidated their power after a long period of infighting and turmoil. Currently, Eidurand is the leader in generated wealth, exploration, and mineral materials.   Eidurand's government is made up of a collection of guilds. There are hundreds of operating guilds in eindurand, each with varying levels of wealth or influence. Guilds that are considered to be part of the Guild State are those who have the most accumulated wealth and influence. As such, the members of the guild state are fluid. While some guilds, whose wealth far exceeds many others, have been able to keep their positions for ages, the guilds that are only barely influential enough to be on the Guild State are constantly rotating. While it is forbidden to outright destroy another guild's wealth or property, many of the lower ranked guild participate in sabotage, spying, and other nefarious tricks to get the leg up on their competition.   Being a member of the guild state offers privileges that other guilds would be denied. Things such as lower taxation and no fees collected upon foreign imports. The Guild State meets in a pseudo congress to decide the matters of state such as military, judiciary laws, and other important matters. Each guild in the Guild State represents a territory within Eindurand, a separate state. Within the borders of these states, the leading guild is free to enact policies and laws so long as they do not supersede the laws of the guild state. Once a new Guild has been put into place in any one state, they can choose to continue the previous guild's policies or to progress in other directions.

Structure

Eindurand is structured as an oligarchy, with the wealthy being those who have the most power. While the general populace is protected by a constitutional charter, the constitution can be amended by a majority vote of the Guild State. The Guild State has 23 seats to represent each of the 23 states within Eidurand. Each of these seats belongs to the strongest or wealthiest guild from that state. The general populace receives no direct say in who sits on the Guild State. It is generally considered that the people "vote" with their support of the guild in their respective states.

Public Agenda

Eidurand was created on the idea of a freer market without direct oversight from any government body. The majority of Eindruandi people believe that having a market of goods, without inference, leads those who are best suited for the communities to lead. The southeastern region of Anatole has always been a rich area of artisans and those who work with minerals such as mining, blacksmithing, or industrial fabrication. Eindurand seeks to enrich itself through new industry, inventions, and practices as well as by using oversee materials and commodities to strengthen their position.

Assets

Taken as a whole, Eindurand is the wealthiest nation in the world. Eindurand's banks are famous for their size and dependency. Their ability to manufacture from raw materials has earned it this top place among nations. In addition to their industries, Eindurand host some of the continent's richest mineral regions. This allows a steady influx of metals to be mined from the Eidurandi mountains, further fueling their economic growth. Military stregnth is not the strong suite of Eindurand. While each state has their own proffessional forces, there is no centralized standing military. In times of crisis Eidurand had to rely upon these professional armies supplemented by men-at-arms or mercenaries. Despite this, Eidurand has enjoyed a long history of stability from outside influence due to the abundance of natural borders. Their only non-mountianous land border is their northern border with Titania, who are currently their allies.

History

Eindurand was once comprised of several smaller nations states that constantly fought for dominance in the region. They were far removed from the influence of the Early Wars with Yomraih, and far enough south to not be bothered by an expanding Astrellas or Titania . For many generations, Eidurand remained an unstable, war heavy region despite their isolation from other nation.   Eventually, after regional infighting had become far to expensive, the nations of modern day Eindurand adopted a confederacy of states, much like that of Merrescene. This idea was wildly popularized by writers of that time who openly opposed the further violence. For many years, Eidurand existed as a confederacy whose nations were seen as part of the confederacy, but individual in their own rights.   In 1338 AN, a groups of powerful and influential families started to reorganize into modern day guilds. The guilds normally consisted of groups of businesses all ran by the same family or proprietor. The guilds became widely popular during this time due to not only their success, but their ability to provide the people of Eindurand new opportunities and jobs that might have been previously unavailable. However, this did not sit well with a few of the nation states that saw the guilds as little more than monarchs without the title. In 1349 a contreversial peice of literature became popularized in the higher classes. This fictional story held the basis of ideas for a freer market based upon the viability of the people within it. In the book, named "The Foundation Shrugged", the author points out that by freeing the people of the constraint of governing bodies the people would be able to work without having limits to their entrepreneurial endeavors or a cap upon their wealth. The ideas in this book told hold in the general public, but mostly so in the minds of the guilds. In 1351, after the sovereign of a single nation state dissolved a guild in an attempt to gain state power over the state's markets, people of Eidurand became extremely outspoken about the role of the state in their affairs. By the end of 1352, Eindruand was once again visited by conflict. Nation states were divided in their ideas and eventually, openly hostile. After a brief revolution a new constitution was ratified. In 1356 a new government was established and constitution adopted leading to the creation of Eindurand's current Mercantile Republic.

Demography and Population

The People of Eindurand are mostly human. Humans in Eindruand tend to have fair skin and lighter hair colors along with blue or green eyes. Alongside humans, many Undine find their homes in Eidurand. Its abundant access to coastal water, very active sailing industry, and many rivers are perfect for these water Djinnasi. Lastly, Eidruand has a large population of Elves that call it home. Most of these Elves come to Eindurand to pratice crafts honed throughout their journeys or in the Lost Wilds.

Territories

Eidurand's occupies some of the southermost points of Anatole, occupying the majority of the southeastern region of the continent. They share their western border with Roissaices along the Southern Mountain Range. Their norther border extends from the end of the southern mountain range to the eastern coast. This border their share with Titania. While once these lands were held by a myriad of nation-states, they are now held collectively by the Edurandi Republic.

Military

Eidurand does not have a formal military in the traditional sense. According the constitution, each state is responsible for providing their own military power in the form of smaller, professional military. In times of war or extreme national disaster, the Guild State must band these groups together for one purpose. In addition to these smaller forces, the Guild State may use national funds to secure supplemental forces through the use of men-at-arms or mercenary groups.

Religion

While Eidurand does not recognize one formal religion, the people of Eindurand heavy favor the god Creot. Creot, being the god of the forge, is thought to be the patron god of Eidruand. Several shrines and temples to Creot can be found throughout the nation from the poorest blacksmith to the wealthiest artisan. Many domains are ascribed to Creot that would not normally be found outside of the nation. Things such as economic success, industrial endeavors, and general economy are thought to be the domains of Creot.

Foreign Relations

Eidurand is the only country upon Anatole that has, of yet, never been in a full scale war with another Anatolian nation. Their Northern neighbor, Titania is often referred to as "Eindurand's Shield", though this is hardly said around Titanians. Eindurand considers Titania a close ally. Other nations tend to be fairly neutral about Eindurand save for Roissaices. Roissaices and Eindurand have had minor disputes over the mountain territory that divides their nations. While Roissairains would tell you that the Eidurandi government is nothing more than disguised feudalism, Eindurandis would say that the Roissaran are weak and easily controlled by their own government.
