The Stonewall Royale - updates needed

The events of and around the Stonewall Royale is studied by both inquisitorial and forces of the Crystal Kings*1. It marks one of the first instances of events in Roth'Eld'Wor*2 spilling into the Materium*3. It is by the unyielding strength and spirit of the peoples of Stone King Tiant*4 that Stonewall was not lost to the otherworld.

The Conflict

Prelude

The story of the Stonewall Royale begins in the otherworld Roth'Eld'Wor, with two forces of the afterlife.   It was during the Age of Chaos*5 that a recurring portal to the materium was discovered by the Freedinals*6. Since the portal was in a realm of chaos, they decided a fortress would be built to protect and use the portal. They used this portal to help mortals as best they could. Over time, all five castes of Freedinal would pass through it to do so at one point in time or another. Despite their efforts to keep the fortress and portal secret, it was only a matter of time until it was discovered, and moment had finally come to pass in the Age of Kings*7.   The resulting battle between the Freedinals and Destruluths*8 caused the Otherworldly Storm*9 that served as the prelude and only warning of what was to come for mortals. From the Mortal point of view, the storm began with a turbulence affecting astral-travel*10 to and from the Stonewall System. As time went on, the turbulence grew in severity until it nearly prevented faster than light travel, at wich point the storm manifested. It burst forth into life so quickly that neither the world of Stonewall or the Fororn*11 forces passing by the system had a chance to send word of it. With the birth of the storm, ships in space near the planet and heart of the storm were sucked out of the Materium. Those out of the system but close enough to be affected by the storm were pulled in system like boats in an inescapable current.   Several months after the outbreak of the storm began, reports of mysterious disappearances began to circulate alongside rumors of cult activities. This increased over several months, culminating in an uprising of God-Fiend*12 cults that enabled the Fiends to begin to manifest in the materium, causing the start of the royale before the Fororn military forces could respond. It should be kept in mind that hese events do attract the attentions of other forces of Roth'Eld'Wor.

Deployment

All deployments were either on the Fororn starships or the planet of stonewall prime. The other planets went uncontested, due to being uninhabited and uninhabitable, save for a select mining and gas extraction operations with temporary populations of up to several thousand workers.

Battlefield

The Battlefields were the insides of starships and the world of Stonewall Prime, with conflicts raging on all but the ocean covering sixty percent of the planet.

Conditions

An Otherworldy Storm encompassed the Stonewall system for the duration of the conflict. This trapped all starships in and near the system and made it much easier for the entities of Roth'Eld'Wor to slip from the otherworld to the Materium. On the planet, weather cycles continued as normal, while the day and night was trapped in a permanent evening, and the peoples dreams became bizarre - often morphing into haunting night terrors.

The Engagement

Engagements in space took place entirely inside the Fororn starships. One the planet of Stonewall, engagements began mostly in and outdoors and on foot. While airial battles took place, they were rarely unsupported by ground forces.

Outcome

The Stonewall System is devastated but survives the storm. Though the Freedinals are otherworldly entities, they are given permission by the planetary lord and Esper Knight Chapter Masters to aid in the rebuilding for one decade. Five hundred throusand cultists of various powers are confirmed by both Fororn and Inquisitorial investigations with evidence, confessions, and arcane circles of truth. Each wretched and damned soul is put to the sword, while their friends and family are monitered for three generations for any sign of corruption.   For their efforts in preserving the Stonewall System, the third and fourth chapters of the Fourth Legion are granted names. The third is granted the name Wall Watchers, while the fourth is granted the name Brightwall.

Aftermath

The Stonewall System is devastated but utimately recovers, under Imperial and inquisitorial oversight, with the Freedinals being allowed to aid in the rebuilding. After negotiations with the Freedinal leader, it was decided that the portal from Roth'Eld'Wor would be closed.

Historical Significance

Legacy

For most, the legacy  of the Stonewall Royale is the knowledge gained from the event.    For the people of Stonewall, the legacy is a part of everyday life, for the Freedinals helped them rebuild. Statues, art, and literature are some of the ways people still give thanks to the Freedinals.   To the Freedinals, it is the people and the generations since the Royale that serve as its legacy.

This is a really interesting and complex article. I saw your post that you were disappointed with writing under 6K words for WE, but after reading this, I don't think you should be. In my view, quality is more important than quantity, and you clearly put a lot of thought and work into this article. I've followed Crystal Kings, and I'm looking forward to reading more.
